EVEKTOR will finally get the EV - 55 Outback plane certified this year and should be on the market soon.

It's been quite the journey, but it appears to be a great bird.

It sure beats an ice proned CARAVAN and it's half the cost offering 50 % higher speed.

Fast is good. Ice free is beneficial.

Reminds me of a NEO-ed Let 410 or (showing my age here) a GAF Nomad. Good looking bird actually. Will have great performance with those two big engines, nice short/rough field capability.

Do they still do the Flying Doctors thing in Australia? This will be a nice bird for them, if they are in the market for some. Wonder if Cape Air might be interested too.

Funny you mention the LET 410 … it's built right next door the LET plant .

I think it will be a gamechanger for 135 operators ... last I heard they were testing 5 and 6 plade prop versions to lower the noise and cabin vibrations and decrease the fuel consumption.

The Royal Flying Doctor Servise [RFDS] has pretty much standardized on the Pilatus PC-12, with over 30 in service & have recived their first 2 PC-24s [WA & SA divisions] with 3 (?) more to come. The aero medical version was designed in close consulation with the RFDS.

Does not look like it is pressurised so it would not be good in that role

It's two engines instead of one. That's a huge increase in operating expenses in this category of aircraft. It's a different market.

2 planes sitting on the ramp ... you have a choice ... which one would you climb into ?

The passengers don't really have a choice, unless two operators fly the same route with both aircraft.

As for those buying the plane in the first place, they'll think long and hard about why they'd have to spend more for something that can carry no more than a Caravan or PC-12.
I'd see a point if it was bigger, say the size of a Twin Otter or Let 410.
It looks like a very nice airplane, but operators of that kind of airplane don't exactly tend to swim in cash and like to go cheap.

That said, I can think of a couple of operators who'd be interested, and I'm sure they'll sell a few.

This planes listed cost is nearly 50% cheaper than a Cessna Grand Caravan

I'd like to see a confirmation of this then, because all I can get are the list prices from Wiki, which mention $4M for the EV-55 and $2.5M for the Grand Caravan.

It is a bigger, more complex airplane, and those PT-6s don't come cheap. There's only so much you can save on cheaper labour.

I read the Chinese placed a locked order for 50 at 1.75 million each

There is no mention of the order price in the article you posted.
It might well be true, but then you are comparing negotiated price for a large order to list price, which, in aviation, are two very different things.

The EV-55 is certainly a great airplane, and a great competitor, but it is not 50% cheaper than any other airplane you mentioned and does not necessarily constitute the best option for everyone.
I don't think Cessna is panicking just yet...

Never say never, I suppose. You might be able to order one through http://www.walmart.com at some point. In the meantime, you could fly one to either VBT, FYV or XNA, all of which will put you close to Walmart's world headquarters!

That's quite a condescending statement.

Not everyone needs to fly thousands of NM and not everyone can find alternate transportation to aircraft on short hops. There are different markets where different categories of airplanes are needed; this must be one of them.

I really like it, I see it as a BN Islander kind of aircraft, but with more range. I hope it comes to New Zealand as it seems a market that might have plenty of suitability

A so called MALAYSIAN investor climbed aboard ... insisted on certain rights to the aircraft ... EVEKTOR gave it to him ... he never wired the money in return ... went through several international courts ... MALAYSIAN went to prison and EVEKTOR was back up and running with an infussion of cash from western sources.

As I said in the initial post ... It's been quite the journey ...

other than groceries and fuel … do you ever pay list price ?

Thank you for the clarification.

Most planes in its class are pre-1970 designs, Do-228 is the only exception with 1982 design.

On the hompage of the company I am able to find the news, the program was stooped/on hold on 16-Mar-2017.
https://www.evektor.cz/en/news/ev-55-outback-project-information#.XP71U42P6t8

I can not find the news, the program was ever restarted. Sorry but where is the official information/news, the program is now restarted?

It just seems to be one of the many programs, which have never reached the mass production.

It is just the next dead bird.
