It would be fun to watch 744 in Newcastle. I don't know if Newcastle ever been 747-400 landing and take off in the past?

They did it, part of the 75th Anniversary celebration of NCL Airport. A BA 744 operated the flight between LHR and NCL.

I've seen a BA 744 there once, it diverted from LHR, coming in from somewhere South East Asia. Can't remember the exact reason, but most of the other southern UK airports were getting very busy with diverted, so they dipped into NCL, where it's normally quite quiet. Left again after a few hours.

747s appear at NCL every once in a while, 2 or 3 years ago BA had 3 or 4 of them on the ground at one time

It was only for one day to celebrate the centenary and it was allegedly never official! But as the flights were loaded into the reservations system news got out and people went mad trying to book them.
But BA decided to go another way and now are refunding the tickets of anyone who bought them.

That’s disappointing. Maybe they figured it’s not worth it for their 45th anniversary. They’ll probably go ahead with this in 55 years time for the real 100th. Haha!
