I believe more and more cruise lines are starting/ending cruises in San Juan...which I'm sure helps a lot.

I think another big factor is that cruise ship passengers (originating or just stopping in San Juan/Ponce) see that unlike many other Caribbean islands, PR is more than just a mountain with a beach surrounding it

I'm down on the island a couple of times a year. I just got back two weeks ago from SJU. The airport was packed. My inbound and outbound flights were full. DL JFK-SJU on a Tuesday was full! I've never missed that upgrade and I did on that flight. Return SJU-ATL on a Friday was full.

Most of the hotels are back open. Caribe Hilton just reopened this month. The St. Regis is back open. I was on the island for work and my friends who live there say business is very good right now.
