Why did yesterdays (6/13) DL185 divert to ANC!?

Fri Jun 14, 2019 11:11 pm

I'm taking DL185 soon and was wondering why yesterdays (6/13/19) DL185 diverted to ANC!? It looks like from FR24 it was almost in Russian airspace before diverting to ANC!? Also I was wondering if the plane WAS in Russian airspace and it wasn't critical, I assume it would still divert to ANC or PEK/ICN/HND/NRT (a online DL station) instead of the middle of nowhere in Russia? I read on here that planes only divert in the Russian Far East if it was something critical (engine failure, etc.)

Depending on the Siberian routing, there’s several Russian airports designated and capable of handling a diversion. It’s required for many flights as ETOPS. Petropavlovsk, Magadan, and Khabarovsk come to mind. Been to all and good airports and facilities. Avoid the dodgy seafood dinners.
