Turbulence: Flight Attendant slammed into ceiling (video)

Mon Jun 17, 2019 9:00 pm

Good day,

Wow. This video is frightening.

Not sure if this is posted above.

Looks like a bad case of turbulence, an air pocket, etc. (not sure) and painful too.

The ALK Airlines flight was traveling from Pristina International Airport to EuroAirport. Not sure how many injured. But the video is somewhat disturbing.

Wow, reminds you why you should always have your seat belt fastened whilst seated.

Ditto. Although by reading the AvHerald report, the return flight operated as normal just delayed which would indicate the Crew took the aircraft back. Also mentioned 10 passengers (not crew) required assistance, so hopefully the Flight Attendant was ok. Looked pretty violent!

Stay safe,

Your body is moving through space at hundreds of km/h. And any violent deviation by the tube you are in, will definitely send you crashing into stuff if unrestrained.

I just saw that. Watching the FA slam into the ceiling is painful. I pray she is all right. This why we stay buckled up when seated. According to the report on Fox News, one of the seats broke loose from their anchor points during the turbulence.

Was that a little kid standing on a parents lap right at the beginning of the video?

Wow!!! Luckly that beverage cart didn't land on top of a passenger because it hit the ceiling as well. Perhaps it was CAT but if it wasn't it make me wonder why the FA's were even up with a beverage cart in the aisle. Safety has to trump drink service.

Always keep your seat belt fastened when seated, it's rare but you never know when this kind of thing will hit.

No it's the other flight attendant, the blue and yellow scarf around her neck is the uniform.

It’s always seemed strange to me. If it’s too bumpy to get up and use the washroom, then it should be too bumpy to be slinging drinks. My favourite is when there’s turbulence, I’m sitting aisle or middle, and the window seat orders coffee. Knock on wood, I haven’t been spilled on yet, but it terrifies me every time.

Look at that lady dripping wet in the video. Now, imagine if that were coffee or tea! She would be badly burned.

That looked very bad - could easily be a broken neck. I hope not and hope the recovery is quick. Even wearing your seatbelt very loosely would make a big difference to passengers in this situation.

Why was she serving drinks? It was looking very unsettled already.

Maybe they just got caught off guard by clear air turbulence in the middle of the service. I am sure if they were expecting that turbulence the pilot would have suspended it and the flight attendants would have been strapped in.

Some time ago United lost a passenger on a flight because she didn't want her skirt wrinkled by the seat belt and got her Neck Broken when that airplane hit turbulence and she hit the overhead. It appeared everybody Else fastened their seat belt but her. I still fly with my seatbelt fastened right today even when I'm sleeping on an airplane. It just makes good sense. I sure hope the FA is going to be OK.

Back in the day I would take my belt off after takeoff to be more comfortable during the flight. Then about 20 years ago, I heard about a young Japanese woman on a United flight to Honolulu who died when she hit her head during turbulence and since then, my seatbelt stays on.

This happened to a friend of ours about 25 years ago in an EMB-120. She was going down the aisle making sure people were buckled in for expected turbulence and didn’t make it back to the jump seat. She got slammed into the ceiling near the galley. Cracked two vertebrate, broke her collar bone and broke an arm. She never flew again.

Nine.com.au an Australian website has this on the news feed today.
In Typical Australian Journalistic style , it reports that : A passenger on board a Boeing flight in Kosovo has captured shocking video of a flight attendant being flung into the plane's ceiling during a bout of severe turbulence:
No mention of the airline involved , just the maker of the plane, because it's all Boeings fault. Airline was mentioned a little later in the article .
Did look nasty but why was drinks service still being carried out, unless it was CAT , surely cabin crew would have been told to secure cabin and stop service if the Pilots knew it was coming.
