Why is DL128 from PEK to SEA delayed 18 hours and counting!?

Wed Jun 19, 2019 8:54 pm

I'm planning to take DL128 soon and noticed it is delayed 18 hours and counting for today's flight. I can't take any delays and was wondering the reliability of the B763ER on the route. It looks like Hainan's B789 is way more modern and reliable than the old Delta B763ER. Anyone have insight on why its delayed so long!? And 0125 PST arrival into SEA, is CBP even open at that hour?

because DL doesn't cancel. That plane will be delayed 72 hours if that's what it takes to be able to say that the flight isn't cancelled...

I'm not sure if this is meant to be one of those "DL flies 'old' planes" sorts of threads, but I would assume there's some specific issue and it's a one off. If you look at the stats, this flight is almost always arriving on time or early into Seattle. Hainan having "way more modern" 789s doesn't really have anything to do with anything considering it leaves late almost every day and just on Sunday arrived over 2 hours late.

So you are asking if it is reliable then state Hainan's 789 is more reliable? Ok. Call Delta and let them know you "can't take any delays". They'll prioritize their operation for you.

This is quite true but t-tailed also has a good point -- if they don't "cancel" the flight not only do they brag about "completion factor", but they pay nothing for hotels. And, because their flight isn't "cancelled", they don't lose any revenue by booking their passengers on other airlines.

For the OP, lesson learned, next time book with Hainan. They may be more reliable and if they have a cancellation, errr, a delay of several days I mean, they'll be much more accommodating about putting you on another carrier.

That is ONE Airplane and airplanes sometimes Break. It's not indicative of the entire fleet Nor the flight itself. It's just THAT particular airplane or it's crew.
You're free to fly Hainan's 789 if you so shoose since you're hell bent on flying "Brand New" Equipment..

The 737 Max is a brand new aircraft as well, they have already put two in the drink and are currently grounded worldwide. Making a decision based on the age of an aircraft as well as a one-off event isn’t the wisest of moves. Go ahead and fly Hainan though...

I just figured it out. I used Beijing airports website and it said DL128 from today is cancelled (6/19/19) and replaced with DL9928 tomorrow (6/20). For some reason delta.com didn't show the flight as cancelled.

Is it me or has Delta’s performance been getting worse recently? Just flew to Europe and flight was delayed both times. Domestic flight same day was also delayed.

Delta is well known for their not cancelling flights, have to keep that record up! My concern is their IT structure, apparently they had another IT meltdown today. Not as bad as the past few, something nobody should have to say, but still another IT meltdown. Seriously, did they purchase their system from eBay?

Indeed most of the people I know "can't take any delays" too. Just like you. Or to paraphrase, you are just like anybody else.

And yes DL operates old, unreliable planes. (bought second-hand for a pittance)

You sound unfamiliar with Delta's international Contract of Carriage. Hotels are part of the deal with delays greater than four hours.
