Should they just wait for all the airspace bans to be lifted first? They are hemmoraging money for Delhi to EU/NA flights....but I guess they don't care as long as big daddy is paying.

Why the negativity? How much of an impact does the airspace ban have on them other than the stop in VIE on some North American flights? Care to elaborate the "haemorrhaging?"

I have seen AI pissed on so much on this forum yet their expansion has been consistent. They know what could make them money, and are going for it.

Cos they lost extra Rs 300 crore is the first couple of months of the Pakistani Airspace ban, now with Iran joining the list, the losses will be higher. I guess losing almost a billion$/year shouldn't call for negativity, lets add more routes to increase these losses further.

Also the Pakistani airspace ban isn't going to go away cos well....https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/wor ... 893683.cms

This route is a 'restart'.
Air India pulled out of YYZ a few years ago because they were taking heavy losses on this route. Why?
They were constantly late. YYZ is a very expensive airport to operate to/out of.

Not intending to AI bash here. However, they have their main hub in Delhi and all their west bound flights , that includes all the Gulf / North America/Europe etc, to be affected by the ban and causing them to fly much longer routes for the same. So yes, on a daily basis they burn a lot of extra cash, enough to make quite a few of their routes heavy loss making ones.
They already are a very loss making entity even on good days, so this sure wouldn't be any better for them.
Their current debt stands at around USD 8bn!!!! Now what say of that? Another private airline in the country with a debt of ~$1.5bn was declared bankrupt apparently. And AI gets to live and do what they feel like that level of debts.

Pakistan airspace is a temporary issue which will hope to be resolved sooner and to be precise AI EU bound flights and US bound are passing through Iranian airspace.Dgca issued advisory to avoid the Hormuz Straight water route .Absolutely no problem with Iran airspace except the conflict part .

Given the huge success of AC YYZ-DEL(temporary rerouted through YVR due to Pakistan airspace restrictions) AI is restarting the route given demand .

Part of two to three airway routes are available for Indian flights which AI is utilising the airspace available in Pakistan reducing time block by 35 to 45 mins.

Fact remains, in the best of times, Air India's longhaul loses money. Now it's almost $700million extra. Is it prudent to start another route which will lose more money in such a circumstance?

Air India having non stop flights from Delhi to Toronto makes sense because Air Canada is a Star Alliance member like Air India and Air Canada also operates non-stop flights from Toronto to Delhi.

Funny how only the US / Canada / Europe flights make the news.

AI is also starting Nairobi and Bali - FWIW.

No airspace restrictions now, perhaps AI was hoping it will be lifted soon when they announced this flight and now that came true.

Not back to square one and there is no restrictions on airspace.People are spreading false news that airspace restrictions are back.Kindly refrain from those news.
Delhi-YYZ would be good success in the same way as DEL-SFO is being minting money .
Folks bashed AI earlier also when it intended to start DEL-SFO and now they are nowhere...teh same would be to this one also

When you're done with the Enron quality auditing and sign off of AI, please explain to us how an airline that is so smart is still so far in the red.

I am not talking about the whole Air India debts ...but here reference to a particular route which AI is restarting .Now a days AI management is in good hands and they are going on new routes with clear view.Given the route is also massive success for Air Canada due to non stop connectivity (one of the factor ).

That's revenue, not profit. Plus its 16 months old news, around the time they were trying to "sell" Air India. Do tell us how much money was made during the overflight ban....

Chances are that airspace will close again and this time it will not be for a short term.

Pakistan has closed some parts of its airspace, but AI says it adds 12 minutes extra to its flight and won't be an issue.

Pakistan closes a corridor of its air space

"One air corridor has been closed (in Pakistani requiring a maximum of 12 minutes diversion. It will not affect us (much)," said the Air India spokesperson.
