MLB Charter Flights to London

Wed Jun 26, 2019 5:04 pm

Does anyone know what the flight arrangements are for the Boston Red Sox and N.Y. Yankees to London later today for their two game set in London this weekend? The usual Delta charter number for the Red Sox is DL 8884 but that doesn't show up anywhere.

NFL football...not MLB. This is the first time regular season MLB is being played in London.

The Red Sox are using Crystal 772, not sure about the Yankees.

That makes sense. The Sox broadcasting team was talking about an entire lie flat seating for everyone. Just as a side note, back in March I saw the Crystal B777 on the cargo/general aviation side of KRSW, which is where the Red Sox do their spring training. Coincidence?

Very Likely to be Crystal B772LR P4-XTL the Red Sox’s; it’s currently in KBOS having flown from KRSW yesterday afternoon.

P4-XTL is not available for tracking on FlightAware at the "request of the owner/operator."

Anyone know which London airport they're planning on?

P4-XTL - KBOS to London not showing in Flightrader24 yet. P4-XTL seems to end up in KRSW quite a bit- sat there for 12 days before heading to KBOS.
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

Maybe a chartered UA 777 or Dreamliner from EWR?

Saw a quick clip of the Red Sox on Barstool and figured it was Crystal.

Highly doubtful, considering the Yankees have a major marketing agreement with and charter on DL (there's a great big DL sign on top of the scoreboard at Yankee Stadium). I'd think a 77B (777-200LR) with 37 lie-flat seats would be more than enough to accommodate DL's most high profile baseball client.

EDIT: I haven't seen anything scheduled for tonight or tomorrow (as of midnight Thursday, CDT) on the Yankees' DL charter flight, DL8889. So, they're probably going with a third-party carrier instead of DL for their trip to London.

P4-XTL is on approach to LGW right now, approximately 0030 central. Checked FlightAware for EWR and JFK to LGW and LHR and did not see any unusual flight numbers.

I would think STN since it has lots of parking for all the cargo ops and when you have your own private transport, the connection into the city won't matter.

Do we even have a rounders field here for them to play on?

It's being played at the London Stadium (West Ham Utd's ground) or as I still prefer to call it - the Olympic Stadium.

Nick Swisher has an IG post where it looks like they flew Virgin Atlantic. Could possibly be VS676 JFK-LHR A346 G-VWEB

I'd say that's it. VS676 looks to be a one-off flight.

Aww, they could've and borrowed a cricket ground somewhere. IIRC there was even once a baseball game played at Lord's, although that was during one of the World Wars.

Just one problem - we currently have the Cricket world cup taking place in the UK, so the two London cricket grounds (Lords and the Oval) are in use. MLB probably wouldn't even dream of playing these games outside of London.

The Crystal 777 flew into PVD last month with the Chelsea soccer team. I got to sit by it for a while but didn't get to go inside, but the pictures I saw were pretty nice. $55,000 per hour to charter.
