WN State Theme Jets Question

Fri Jun 28, 2019 8:57 pm

WN has state flags painted on some of their jets. Maryland, California, Texas, Nevada, New Mexico among others. I know Oregon will probably not get our jet but I am wondering how that would look? The Oregon state flag is different on either side. The state seal on one side and the mighty beaver on the other. If WN does and Oregon jet, would it be simply the state seal on both sides?
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

I’m thinking eventually they might get one for Hawaii

There’s nothing stopping Southwest from painting each side of the airplane differently.

In 2018, WN introduced Louisiana One.

They, for the most part, are based off of where SWA has hubs in. New Mexico was added because it was the first non-Texas state they flew to. Louisiana, I believe was the next non-Texas state.

When I worked at SWA I actually submitted to Gary Kelly to do 2 retro jets for the 50th birthday, one MAX in the very first "SOUTHWEST AIRLINES" colors and one MAX in gold. A USA One would be pretty cool too.
When wasn't America great?

Other way around. Louisiana (MSY) was the first state outside of Texas to be added, in January 1979. New Mexico (ABQ) came the following year, April 1980, along with Oklahoma (OKC and TUL).

The state planes also have to do with being the airline that flies the most passengers in that state.

It's a little hard to fly passengers within a state where you only serve one city (NM, LA, Maryland, IL).

A Hawaii One plane would be awesome. Just not sure it should be the state flag. Outside of Hawaii I imagine there’d be quite a bit of confusion at the sight of a WN bird sporting the Union Jack bouncing around the system.
If WN wants to go full local, they could do Hawaii One with the Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) flag. Thought that would be even less known outside of Hawaii. Provided they seek permission from Native Hawaiian Community Leaders, I could see that scoring WN “mayjah” brownie points locally.

Perhaps something similar to AS’s AK and HI themed planes would be best.

A WN plane in the Georgia One livery will likely happen since WN has a focus city at ATL and since Georgia is the only state with a WN focus city that doesn't already have a WN plane in a special state livery.

IIRC the threshold is 30% state market share O&D. Although there's not too many large cities other than Atlanta, I can't see WN pulling that off with their 115+ departures.

States I'd imagine in the pipeline (pure speculation)

Hawaii
New York? (BUF, LGA, ALB, ROC, ISP)
Ohio (CMH, CLE, CVG[yes i know it's in KY])
Georgia (ATL, AirTran tribute?)
Oklahoma

I agree on a Georgia One...ATL is a busy station for them...100+ departures, hangar activity and a reservation center with supporting facilities. All this courtesy of AirTran so a tribute would be fitting. They are constantly sponsoring different events/causes here in ATL in spite of DL. It would show a further commitment to the city and state. IJS.

For Ohio, WN is only top dog in CMH. DL/UA are still the biggest at CVG/CLE respectively. I don't see Ohio being in the same vein of market visibility as the current state livery areas.

Fair points. What about IND, is WN the largest carrier there?
