Didn't Starlux plan to start service to North America?

Yes but first A350 delivery is not until Q4 2021, so initially, they will operate regionally with its A321NEO fleet

I can't wait for this airline to come out. The livery and the name seem pretty nice.
So does this airline look like it's actually going to succeed? A lot of airlines have gone down recently.

Well the founder was the former head of EVA Air so he should have some idea of the business landscape. From what I read he was also well regarded including by staff since he was a qualified 777 pilot also.

I would be surprised if Taiwan could support three airlines, especially since Starlux doesn't seem to be attempting a LCC strategy.

Totally agree. The initial press coverage gave you the impression they would fly on routes with a lot of paid premium cabin passengers. This list shows a lot of leisure destinations apart from Osaka and Tokyo which themselves are still fairly short haul from Taipei.

They're probably gonna start with more leisure destinations with lower demand since they'll be able to compete there better, and tackle the big boys after they've established themselves. It's gonna be tough, but this guy has experience and it's not an impossible task.

They need time to gain ETOPS operation approval
They have said that they will "certainly" fly to all North American destinations that EVA Air fly to, and also to other North American destinations that they haven't served, with their chairman saying it was him who planned the entire EVA Air North American network when he was in the airlines.

Their strategy seems to be expand rapidly so that they will not be the third airlines when the market cannot support three airlines at the same time.

Those are routes that they can get air service right now because of open skies agreement in place. They have also applied for routes to Vietnam, and other territories that are on their list at the beginning are Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Macau.

By the way, I just read ab earlier report saying they will offer widebodies styled lie-flat business class seats on narrow body aircraft
