It was minor by the coast. But the aftershocks keep coming.

Scary earthquakes, you want to stay away from Southern California. :stirthepot:

The quake is far east and not near any commercial airport. The closest one... Still far enough away to not be impacted.

Ridgecrest is being hit by the big ones, but also lots of micro-quakes around Camp Pendleton:

I'm on vacation in Santa Barbara. This one was definitely noticeable. A door on the store I was in swung closed and there was a profound sense of vertigo. But if I'd been on a plane on the ground, I would have just assumed that it was luggage being loaded or something.

This one was exciting, but not scary.

Go about 70 miles due East for fun.

I've felt 4 aftershocks so far.

Found out which cabinets need to be tightened down a bit.

I live by BUR and felt a moderately gentle rocking sensation for a ~10 seconds. Can’t imagine there’s any damage at the airport as there’s none in my area.

It felt just like being on boat. Of course it’s different depending on the type of ground where you’re at. I’m near the beach and we have a high water table so it always feels like boat, the epicenter is midway between the distance of Los Angeles and Las Vegas so Vegas should feel it at least as strong as LA. Also the earthquake was in the 6.6 range and the latest one is 7.1, the distance it must to travel to reach LA by the time they felt it it, the energy dissipated to around 3.5 earthquake. Minor earthquake.

Be more worried about China Lake NWC 4 miles north of city center than Inyokern 9 miles west. More scared of what weapons could be affected vs a Cessa.

I live about five minutes from ONT, and can say the quakes have been rather mild. I’d say the only airport that may have damage would be the China Lake Naval Base basically on top of the epicenter, at least from the 7.1 we just had.

Just transited LAX this morning. Layover was over 2 hrs and didn't hear a single person even mention Thursday's earthquake. Ops seemed completely normal.

Victorville did lose power after the main quake but it was quickly restored.

Felt both earthquakes here in the valley (La Canada). Quite a while ago we had a earthquake that was felt over such a wide area. As already mentioned, the epicenter was in Ridgecrest, so quite far from LA. Can’t imagine there being any damages in the greater LA basin. Nevertheless it has reminded everyone that we actually live in a earthquake prone area after such a long quite period. Now we need to have “the big one” to get done with all these earthquakes ;)

Will this have any impact on Mojave and their testing for space launches there?

I was #2 for landing for 24R when tower advised both us and the LOT 787 ahead that a small earthquake was happening. We were both cleared to land and landed uneventfully. LAX operations never slowed down but ops and CFR vehicles were continuously performing runway and taxiway inspections.

In 1994 I was working on the Ramp for WN on my morning Shift at LAX. Dan P and myself had just brought the first 6 carts of Mail from the post office to the morning originators at Terminal 1 when the Earthquake struck. It's was surreal watching everything shake and Roll. It sounded like a Freight rumbling past.
After a quick inspection of Aircraft and facilities at T1 We grabbed the required Doughnuts and Coffee( WN used to serve Doughnuts and coffee at every gate in the morning then) and headed back to the Post office only to be Stopped by LAWA officials by T7 on the access Road. Lights had fallen inside the Sepulveda Tunnel under 25R/25L-7L/7R so LAWA closed the Runways and roads until LAWA engineers could inspect the tunnel. It was as expected a complete mess that morning at LAX.

I believe Mojave is done. The Allen family has pulled the funding for and is closing Stratolaunch, and Rutan has retired.

I felt a very slight back and forth motion in Hollister, about 190 air miles northwest. I figured it was a good sized quake, but far away.

That is odd. Normally downgrades stick.

I felt both the 6.4 July 4th and 7.1 last night in Las Vegas. The casino was shaking and as someone mentioned above, felt like vertigo. No issues at KLAS today from what I can tell.

China Lake - KNID (military) and Inyokern - KIYK (general aviation) would be the most impacted airports as they are only a few miles from the epicenter. No word on damages so far. No commercial service airports were close enough to epicenter to see any significant damage. Everyone should count their blessing the epicenter was in a remote and lightly populated area.
