How are DL's new TPAC routes doing (ATL-PVG, MSP-ICN)?

Wed Jul 10, 2019 7:00 pm

How are DL's new TPAC routes doing (ATL-PVG, MSP-ICN)? I believe MSP-ICN is doing better than ATL-PVG as ATL-PVG there's discounted fares ($1178 round-trip in September) and MSP-ICN is always really expensive ($1600+). Plus MSP-ICN is more of a true JV hub to hub route.

No way to know without P&L data which would never be posted here. Fares to Korea are typically much higher than China. Not as high as Japan though.

Guess I'll throw this in. How's SEA-KIX?

It just started a few months ago. You need to wait until the public information to be available.

Unless someone has access to the propriety data...

Dont compare the routes to each other. Compare them to other direct pair routes.

SEPT 1-8 rt

SEA-PVG: $600
LAX-PVG: $700
DTW-PVG: $1400

SEA-ICN: $868
ATL-ICN: $1747
DTW-ICN: $1748

Based on this, I would say both new routes are performing well.

I've herd from others that the DTW and MSP flights are performing well. ATL is below average, and SEA is under performing.

Personally, I fly between ICN - SAN every month, I always avoid SEA due to the 767. Their fare is always much higher comparable to KE from the SAN-LAX-ICN, SAN-SFO-LAX or SAN-LAS-ICN tags, & KE has a much more superior product to DL767 despite Deltas 1-2-1.

So until the a330neo activates, I will continue to avoid SEA.

To where is the question. ATL-ICN and SEA-ICN are both exceptional.

ICN is another story and is performing well across the board and has only gotten better due to the relationship between both airlines. I was referring to PVG and KIX

I too prefer KE rather then DL on the Pacific. Your right about SEA avoid at all cost now! the terminal is packed crowded and the DL product does not cut it.

Given the numbers DL posted in their Q2 results, i would say these routes are most likely not going well. I can't see how ATL-PVG is going to be a good performer in the current fare environment.

ATL-PVG is quite lucrative with belly cargo from what I’ve heard so that could be negating some things.
