What are they getting for the proposed US$21 million?

And if eventually approved by regulators, shutting Azul out of the CGH-SDU "ponte aerea" (shuttle), the most profitable domestic sector in Brazil.

David Neeleman must be sitting in a bar getting hammered right about now.

If this gets approved, very good news for G3 indeed. You have to wonder whether DL helped fund G3's winning bid, either directly or indirectly?

I would assume as a Mormon Neeleman wouldn't be drinking but then again I've know a a few LDS members who didn't mind breaking a few rules (sex/drink/smoke) and just got forgiven later.

There is a typo in the announcement. The presented amount is in USD, not BRL. If you go to Gol's investor relations website in Portuguese, it will show in USD.

Latam also bidded and won some UPIs for a similar amount (USD 70M).

Azul decided to sit out and not bid. The auction legality is questionable because Avianca does not own the slots. They are distributed by the government. Azul probably had good indication that the auction will be invalidated.

David don't care about because the auction will be nullified!

Actually the SDU and GRU slots got already redistributed and the CGH ones will be soon after a public hearing.

Also the justice said that is legal to redistributed among the existing airlines.

What would G3 exactly want with the O6 AOC though? I can't see them starting a separate cargo carrier.

Ponte Aerea has gone ages ago. The Airlines now operate independently from each other on the route.

That's still a dumb strategy unless Azul was unwilling or unable to put up enough money to win any of those slots. The bids are conditioned on approval of the transfer by the government so the bidder isn't out any money if the auction is invalidated. But if the auction is determined to be valid, Azul gets shut out.

Congrats and good luck to GOL, however this won't change a nickel in my preference of flying Azul whenever I can.
