EI flies DUB-ADB?

Mon Jul 15, 2019 2:56 am

I don't know if this is in the right area of the forums, but can someone tell me a bit of background details of WHY Are Lingus flies from Dublin to Izmir, Turkey, 2x weekly every summer? That seems kind of random.

Thanks!
Pakistan's aviation sector is coming back. It won't be as strong as our eastern neighbor, nowhere close, but it's going to grow over time. Stand by and watch.

ADB is a popular airport for many holiday makers. Aer Lingus serves many other holiday destinations too like LPA, AGP

Because Irish weather is notoriously bad, yet Irish people love the sun....many Irish also own second homes in Southern Europe. Aer Lingus have no less than 3 flights per day from Dublin (as well extra flights from Cork, Shannon and Belfast) on popular sun routes like Malaga and Faro, and extensive schedules to a wide variety of other resort destinations in Spain, Italy, Portugal, southern France, Croatia, Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria. They even use the A330 to Malaga and Faro on some flights.

Indeed these are sun holiday flights. Not only the Irish go on holiday to a warm place during the summer holidays, it goes for just about all of northern Europe. Many people book a holiday somewhere at the Mediterranean shore to soak up the sun on the beach and Izmir is no exception. In the summer it's packed with tourists from Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Scandinavia, etc. You'll find the same mix of tourists on the beaches in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus.

If you think EI fly to some 'random' places the Ryanair network will blow your mind...

Izmir and Turkey are very popular with tourists . Surprised EI doesn’t fly that route more often

It’s probably EI’s only Asia route, Agadir is possibly EIs only current Africa route if they’re still flying it (I’m not sure )

Also they face less competition there than other holiday destinations as Ryanair is not flying to Turkey.

Izmir is the best airport for the resort of Kusadasi. A lot of Irish citizens bought apartments there during the property boom. The Dublin- Izmir route serves that market plus the wider region e.g Didim/Altinkum.

Truth.
There will come a time when you believe everything is finished - that will be the beginning.

This is the kind of comment that helps the OP & the rest of us not in these areas, understand more of what drives the economics of these routes, thanks for the helpful input. Now I want to check it out with my Irish kin.
