JetBlue Flight Diverted to JFK due to Unusual Odor

Mon Jul 15, 2019 4:51 pm

A JetBlue Flight from EWR to SDQ was diverted to JFK just after takeoff Sunday due to an unusual odor. Several passenger and crew reported feeling sick.

This also references the flight with the photos being circulated about a suicide vest.

I know you’re just kidding around, but Aerotoxic syndrome is absolutely no joke and should be taken seriously.

This has been a common problem on the A320...especially with the IAE-2500 engines. (If it was a fume event which is likely).

For a wild ride, read this Avherald investigation of a Spirit A320 series fume event: http://avherald.com/h?article=4b6eb830

Rumors of unresolved fume event issues on the A330neo are out there, too - TAP supposedly returned one to Airbus for a month and they were unable to root cause what might have been wrong.

There’s been increasing attention on these issues lately, and it does very much seem like Airbus designs are more commonly experiencing them?

Makes me much more likely to seek out bleedless designs (currently, that’s the 787) when given a choice...

Just curious, is there any impact to slots when there's a diversion like this?

Wasn't too long ago there was a bad odor patient who died a couple months later of some wicked flesh wasting disease.

That’s not what aero toxicity or TCP poisoning does.
It attacks the brain and nervous system.

Right, but the ailment this guy had that caused the odor problem on the plane was literally his own rotting flesh

Anybody notice this on the A350? I flew on one sitting right above the engines, and there was definitely a strange smell when we were taxiing.
