Pakistan reopens its airspace

Mon Jul 15, 2019 10:35 pm

The Pakistan CAA has issued a new NOTAM cancelling all previous NOTAMS regarding the closure of Pakistani airspace. Airspace closure began on February 27th, leading to many long haul cancellations due to extended route deviations.

Fantastic news, hopefully with this reopening Air India schedules will get back on track, hopefully they'll be able to reinstate the ATQ-BHX route

Hopefully, this will lead to the reinstatement of United's EWR-BOM route.

GF133 seems to be the first flight entering in Pakistan Punjab airspace since February.

Great news. Oil industry gained atleast $1b from this ban, everyone else lost.

What was the percentage of flights, Indian vs non Indian from Delhi to the west effected by this ban ?
What i understand is around 35 % flights were of Indian carriers.

Good sense prevails finally. Loss of revenue from overflight rights must have surely stung the near bankrupt country.

"Indian service providers - Air India, SpiceJet, IndiGo and GoAir - lost nearly $80m (£63m) due to the closure of the Pakistani airpspace, India's aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri told the parliament recently."

Never gonna make that back.

That's one way at looking at it. They also raised average fares significantly due to 9W's demise.

This is good news. Lots of traffic crossing both ways now. There is a weird one though: SV793. I suppose is to avoid Afghan and Iran airspace, nothing to do with this.

Excellent and glad that sense finally prevailed. They were ruining their own economy and that of neighboring Afghanistan with this, and of course ruining the environment as well.
