LOT WAW-MIA over west coast Florida

Sat Jul 20, 2019 8:50 pm

I flew in to Chicago today and was looking to see if I would be able to catch a glimpse of LOT at ORD so checked out flightradar24 and to my surprise WAW-MIA is routed over the west coast of Florida. I could have been on the beach seeing the flight, but why did it take such a routing? There is no major weather on the east coast and no rocket launches today.

LOT29 probably used an arrival procedure that brought them in from the northwest, which would take them out over the Gulf of Mexico around Naples (northwest of MIA). Interesting that this routing actually saved them around 7 minutes from their previous arrival, which was routed over the Atlantic coast.

Tons of MIA arrivals get vectored over TPA and MCO. Totally normal.

It is very common for Miami arrivals to be routed down the west coast and approach MIA from the west over Naples. Most of my flights into MIAised this approach.

Probably UFO activity. They love rural Floridians.

Thanks guys. I didn’t even think the flight would touch the coast of the US till the end. I’ll have to keep an eye out since I live in Sarasota.
