Sorry if this was discussed elsewhere before or is a nonsense question to begin with but ...anyone knows what the plans are for AT´s 744 and the four from AI? I think two of AI´s 744s are not even used currently? Interesting to know why AI flies the other two on the specific routes they´re on (JED/AMD/MED).

AI flies its 744s mainly to Saudi Arabia and on certain domestic routes. A couple of them are set aside for VIP operations.

AT has retired their 744s quite a bit ago... Wamos is operating some flights for them though using their own 744.

Jeddah is the main destination served by the remaining fleet of 744s at AI.....its a high volume destination for pilgrimage reasons as well as the usual Gulf traffic.....also not a very premium destination so the old 744s are utilised effectively on those routes, while being available for VVIP charters when required....

It's a glorified slave ship, carrying millions of low-level migrants to and fro Saudi Arabia from places like Kochi, Hyderabad etc. Why? The route needs high capacity almost all year around and the shorter length means even a fuel guzzler like B747 doesn't pinch much. Besides, they are paid off and no point using expensive B777 or B787 for such routes. Having said that during festivals like Eid, Christmas, Onam etc and school holidays of July/August fares and yields are quite good.
Recently they started using it from certain metro routes to augment capacity after Jet's collapse. Earlier they did have one BOM-HYD route for aircraft positioning which was a regular service.
