Oh yes absolute legend.

The dialogue about teaching a young child how to tell the time is one of the funniest ones ever.

Grew up watching Dave Allen, greatly missed.

The telling time routine is classic! I’ve even tried to imitate it.

(3-2-1-cue someone complaining the post is “Non-Av”)

Thanks for the laughs.

One of the best comedians of his day, all without swearing or dirty humor that we have today .

Strange - I seem to remember he had a reputation for swearing and generally being more "adult" than other comics. I thought his TV appearances in the UK were always late-night for that reason and that my grandmother had to "OK" me watching it.

Saw him life in London around 1976. He was funny and his jokes were on the strong side for that time.

Thanks for sharing. It's amazing how the language hasn't really changed after all these years.
Don't sweat the little things.

In later years yes he got into a bit of trouble on the BBC although they would have known the content before had. The language then shocked a few but looking back now it's mild. There was an angry style of stand up comedy in the early 90s. I think he tried to copy that style but he didn't need to as he extremely funny without any bad language. Dialogues about his teenage son Ed, and the story of Adam and Eve are also worth looking up.

Some of the sketches he did in the 70s are timeless classics too.

Was a guest of his for lunch at his townhouse near Holland Rd in 1988 (family friend).

A deeply serious and intelligent man off stage - listened and observed intently.

Wonderful host.

Agreed, brilliant comedian, last year the BBC did a special, with Aiden Gillan as Dave Allen, in a moving and affectionate story of aspects of his life. A documentary aired the same night was a fascinating look at this very clever man, who chose to excel at comedy.
(Worth noting too, that prior to the odd swear word on TV, back in the 70's the Mary Whitehouse types objected and the IRA threatened to kill him).
