Why did Dragonair Cargo exist?

Mon Jul 29, 2019 12:24 am

I just went through some photos on this site and I found some of Dragonair Cargo which operated used 747s. So, my question is why did it exist and why not just incorporate it into Cathay Pacific Cargo? After all, CX and Dragonair are both owned by the same parent company, Swire.

My guess is to move cargo from one place to another???

Ok...I’ll be serious...possibly tax write offs or different tax/ownership rules for subsidies of bigger companies??

Dragonair only became a Cathay subsidiary on September 28, 2006, so before then they were operating as an independent company (although in 2005 Cathay did own 18% and Swire another 7.71%).

How else would you move dragons, if not by Dragonair? :)

Have a great day,
