Re: DL closing NRT. Suspends NRT-SIN, Announces ICN-MNL

Now that the schedules are out for ICN-MNL, does anyone know if this is considered an extension of SEA-ICN (given that both share DL197/196 as their flight numbers, so technically DL flies to MNL from SEA through ICN), or is it considered "timetable direct" the way MNL-NRT is with respect to NRT-HNL (they're "extensions of each other" but in reality are operated separately, so MNL is only served from ICN but not SEA)?

CEB Has a brand new International Terminal What if DL flew HND -CEB instead I bet 2 flights a day would always be full.

HND does not allow fifth freedom. And if that's so profitable with so many pax why no one flies TYO/Japan-CEB with widebody?

Then I bet say goodbye to 90% of the destinations worldwide. You can NOT fly to everywhere with a single carrier ever.

YES you can, EWR - SIN on the 350 on Singapore Airlines..

Quite some history at NRT from NWA days which at one time had up to 25 daily departures according to Japanese media.

End of an era, but DL is more than correct in realizing that it has no future in the Japanese market aside from the O&D from its major hubs and Hawaii and as such move towards HND a more premium and convenient airport for business and tourism alike. Its future belongs in Seoul and KE taking on DL passengers whose Asian destination is not Korea; the reason for not having even less presence is sheer geography.

I expect a right sizing of DL's plans in Japan. I can see HNL-KIX/NGO under threat if tourism doesn't rebound to the islands. Next is LAX-HND with a further downgauge from A350/777 to A330; LAX-TYO already had a capacity glut before the crisis with >10 daily flights between the cities.

End of an era indeed. I mean, yeah DL acquired NWA but it would be nice to feature NWA at least. DL only inherited NRT from NWA.

Anyone know what happens with the Delta TechOps hangar?

In 2014 they opened their first overseas facility to provide support for the substantial NRT operation.

When will anyone get back to full schedule? Could take years.

I think this is a fitting illustration of the situation given the times we are in...from the Philippine Aviation thread -- a DL A339 about to repatriate missionaries from MNL ..... :scared: .....

They're actually using it for PTS visits for new widebody deliveries. There's an A330Neo in there now.
