'Covering everything' is a big lift. I'm prepared to be underwhelmed. If it establishes more than 4 new AA destinations (not routes) I'll be surprised. Given that AA claims to service more than 365 destinations today that's a small increment.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the rumors of AA moving to T5 at LHR. I'm sure there's plenty more as well.
There will come a time when you believe everything is finished - that will be the beginning.

Perhaps this is the rumored sale of JFK slots to UA. Perhaps in trade for LAX gates.

I don't see why AA would give anything to UA at JFK - the obvious routes UA would start are JFK-SFO and JFK-LAX, which are probably some of the stronger performers for AA at JFK...

I also don't believe UA's going to cede gates to anyone at LAX. Their current operation requires all the gates they have at the peak times of day.

They are already not using the slots. It’s really get something or get nothing.

I can see it now, among the list of changes at the new stadium:

1. Capacity has increased from 70,000 to 120,000 in the same space
2. Half of the bathrooms have been removed
3. All food vendors have been replaced with LSG SkyChefs
4. The Rams receive a custom charter plane from an old MD-80, although all charter flights have to go through DFW
5. Only Season Tickets and Rams Premium will get assigned seats at the new stadium, basic tickets will have to wait in the parking lot for someone to call them and let them know if/where they can sit.

Kraków would be awesome. Will it be from PHL or ORD?

Chicago has the benefit of 90k annual O&D demand (123 PDEW), much of which is in the summer.

Hey, why not? They already have an arena (Miami) and a center (Dallas), why not a stadium? Then they could have advertising showing the stadium with a 777 or 787 flying overhead on final to one of the 24s  (although I suspect being in Terminal 4, AA flights more often use the 25s).

I highly doubt that if AA was going to purchase the naming rights to the new Rams Stadium, that they’d also buy the naming rights to the entrance plaza also (which they just announced).

Basically, from a company’s point of view, once you have the stadium, also having the naming rights to the entrance plaza is unnecessary and thus a waste of money. From the Rams point of view, if Company X has the stadium naming the rights, the entry plaza represents an opportunity to get some other corporation to pay for naming rights (i.e. you can double up and get money for naming rights from multiple companies)... which is what the Rams did with AA on their entry plaza.

Point being, the fact that AA bought the naming rights for the entry plaza essentially means they are out of the running for the naming rights to the overall Rams stadium.

I think their point was, if someone flies JFK-DFW weekly for work for example, it won't mean a thing to them if they add PHX-HND.

Probably just announcing the HND flights, T5 LHR move, and some more routes to Australia thanks to the QF JV.

India flights while I would love I don't think will happen for a while I would argue they are waiting to see how successful DL is with their JFK-BOM route before diving in with their own metal.

My guesses (any combination of the below)
PHL-VIE/TLV/WAW/MUC/KEF/MXP/BRU (MXP move from JFK)
LAX-MEL/BNE/PPT/ITM/NGO
MIA-CPT/JNB/NRT

On a joking front maybe they are re-hubbing PIT?

I wouldn't doubt AA would move KEF to PHL from DFW. Makes MUCH more sense, although FI will add DFW if they do.

Aeroflot001, the PDEW numbers for MIA/FLL-HND/NRT are tiny (like 25 last time I checked) which isn't enough for a direct flight. Also someone hinted earlier an announcement on the 8th. I hope its TRUE or earlier!

Why don’t you quote people instead of mentioning their names?

Also... isn’t the PDEW for DFW-TYO like... 60? In which, there’s 3 daily direct flights?...

Whatever it is I'm sure a.net will go into a temper tantrum that its either too conservative or doesn't meet the expectations of a "big announcement"

Or maybe we are all wrong and its just a dance troupe performance at DFW again.

And considering how AA's widebody fleet really isn't going to grow anytime soon, it will also likely include a number of cuts as well (although they'll either not be included with this announcement or it will be buried somewhere within the announcement so as to minimize the cuts).

According to fleet plan net increase of 3 Widebody frames at year end 2020 vs 2019. So may have a little growth if 767s stay thru summer. Also, I think some of the domestic/CUN 787 flying last winter was due to delay in QF JV so may have a bit to play with

Sure like to see AA (as well as DL and UA) bring back widebodies on high frequency domestic routes and especially on LAX and PHX to Hawaii. I think Alaska should do a widebody order as well. It was great having AA put a 788 on DFW-ANC this summer.

A flight to CMN (or CPT or JNB) would put AA in the Six Continent club.

Changes to European seasonal flying, the move to HND, and adjustments with the QF JV check the boxes for four other continents.

An adjustment to South American flying would make this announcement cover "every corner" - every continent with scheduled air service.

Exactly.

Based on here:
https://americanairlines.gcs-web.com/st ... c50ba5b932

AA will retire 9 763s and take delivery of 12 789s in 2020.

Almost certainly whatever is being announced is going to have be offset by cuts and/or include OneWorld partner flying.

Of course their FF are in mind with any decision, but like any business the decision to enter new markets is targeted towards attracting new customers who already fly or want to fly those routes and can now choose American. For people whose bulk of flying is done on existing, established AA routes, a new route does not impact their business all that much. Different story for shareholders, though...

I get the point he's making. I do think it's a myopic view though. You could essentially say the same for any route that any airline flies or has flown ever. As such, what constitutes a "big" route announcement then?

AA is going to spill the beans on the Qantas Sunrise decision when they announce new routes as part of their JV. ;p

Is this going to be INTL only?
Seems to early to announce domestic routes for next summer.

And considering how AA's widebody fleet really isn't going to grow anytime soon, it will also likely include a number of cuts as well (although they'll either not be included with this announcement or it will be buried somewhere within the announcement so as to minimize the cuts).

Jeremy

Exactly.

Based on here:
https://americanairlines.gcs-web.com/st ... c50ba5b932

AA will retire 9 763s and take delivery of 12 789s in 2020.

Almost certainly whatever is being announced is going to have be offset by cuts and/or include OneWorld partner flying.

Maybe JL taking over ORD-TYO lock, stock, and barrel as well as picking up say.....LAX-NRT? Maybe also having IB take over JFK-MAD totally as well? Maybe also BA picking up more of the summer seasonal capacity on ORD/PHL-LHR?
