This shows the one carrier, one route policy is relaxed.

Both airlines have near-identical schedules on this route, which seems daft to me. Why did CA not at least offer travellers a choice with a different flight schedule ? Can't believe LGW slots are so hard to come by in winter.

Air China has been effective in getting LHR slots. The LGW-PEK was moved as was the replacement LGW-CTU, and a third LHR-PEK was launched. Can’t see this one being at Gatters for too long.

The title "Air China to launch Gatwick to Shanghai" actually implies that Air China is based at Gatwick. Surely it is more correct to say "Air China to launch Shanghai to Gatwick". Perhaps a bit pedantic, but more accurate!

The first link in the opening post leads to an article with this title: Air China adds Shanghai – London Gatwick link from Nov 2019

Great to see another operator at LGW, and even better on the A350. Those things are incredibly quiet.

Bingo. When the golden child wants in, the golden child gets in.

Let CZ have tried this ex PVG, and their application would've been laughed out of CAAC offices, despite claims on the Chinese side to be relaxing the longhaul policty.

This is actually happening. Look at the PKX-PAR route application. It have long pass the time when result of route allocation according to their own rule should have been announced and published, yet CAAC have remain complete silence on the result and thus prevented MU/CZ from launching the flight to compete against CA on the route.
