35 injuries; 12 to hospital; Rough air on MRU-MAD

An A359 from Evelop Airlines - a spanish based charter company - hit rough air enroute MRU-MAD.

35 injuries with 12 taken to hospital, no cabin pictures yet but must have been quite scary. No damage to the plane is being reported.

I bet some people sitting without belt on.

Too many related incidents over the course of history...It's not just rough air, it's also the possibily of a sudden rational pitch down (the near mid air collision over Japan in 2001, for example,), or an irrational one (QF72 faulty AOA sensor that led the autopilot to pitch down, back in 2008).

I think that regulators, aviation authorities and airlines across the globe need to be more strict on seatbelts.

I don't how to enforce that, but that's how I see it.

Noteworthy that I'm aware that sometimes it's not best thing to stay stuck in your seat for so long...

According to spanish media Is an Airbus 330.

Yes the picture shows an A330 not an A350.

If the picture in that link is right then indeed it's an A330.

At least keeping the belt on while seated would reduce injury tolls in such situations.

In this case, no way there were 35 people standing up at the same time, even including crew.

Or to weat diapers, eliminate any movement, get rid of lavatories and squeeze as much seats as possible.
Ryanair would definitely like the idea!

Pan Am had zero gravity grip shoes already in 2001. I saw a document about it. ;)

The problem is that they don't pack the passengers in tight enough. It will be necessary, for safety reasons, to reduce the seat pitch to 25 inches.

Well, the obviously (poorly) translated article isn't very clear, but since the injured were transferred to hospitals in Madrid, I would assume that the incident occurred towards the end of the flight. During that time, there's often a line of people waiting for the restrooms, so having 35 pax + crew up and about is definitely plausible.
