This means competition for Wizzair, who is already quite big in Georgia.

Yep surprised they announced this expansion now I thought they didn’t really have the capacity to add new routes.

What’s wrong with that? Having a guaranteed source of money is good for the business. I’d be chasing them too.
Look at sweatpants guy. This is a 90 million dollar aircraft, not a Tallahassee strip club

Cologne-Tbilisi is also uploaded in their website but not yet on sale.

I think Ryanair also was planning flights to Armenia.

You just for flights from/to TBS, you can see Cologne listed as destination. The only one besides BGY.

My question with Wizz and now Ryanair in kutaisi is the demand there inbound tourism, because outward traffic would seem limited to just people returning and and small local population of 150,000. How are they going to fill all of those seats it is not a very known touristic city.

This has been brewing for a few years. I recall the Ryanair corporate jet doing some trips to Georgia two years ago.

Wizz Air have the market to themselves for the moment and will have 4 A320s based in Kutaisi from January 2020 (up from 2 today). The airport is undergoing a significant terminal expansion. Kutaisi seems to serve as the low cost gateway for a large part of Georgia.

The real news in Ryanair's announcement is low cost flights to Tbilisi. I wonder how long it will take for Wizz Air to follow.

Stalin is pleased from his grave, jokes apart, is there such a large Georgian diaspora that specifically originates from Kutaisi and it's adjoining areas for such routes to be feasible?

Kutaisi airport is not about Kutaisi. It's gateway to whole Georgia. People going to skiing resorts like Gudauri (North of Tbilisi, some 6 hours transfer time) also use Kutaisi. At least all the people I know who went there used this option instead of flying with a stop to Tbilisi.
Of course more Ryanair routes to Tbilisi might change that.

The roads from Kutaisi to anywhere other than Tbilisi are horrendous and very dangerous. Single lane carriageways on major truck routes with driving standards very different to what we may be used to in most of Europe. Driving times are also much longer than one might imagine given the relatively short distances. Kutaisi itself is very much a nothing town.

Georgia is a fascinating county, it’s a shame they won’t take more of a chance on Tbilisi. Subsidies and/or competition-spoiling win the day again.

Driving standards in Georgia are horrific , almost impossible to tell what side of the road to drive on . Half the cars are left hand drive and the other half are right hand drive . I’ve seen Georgian drivers drive with their knees controlling the steering wheel while watching football on their phones .... in torrential rain , while engaged in triple overtakes ... worst drivers in the world

Breaking news: Wizz Air to launch KUT-CGN/BLQ in response to Ryanair's entry into the Georgian market. Furthermore, the frequency of KUT-MXP will be raised to 4x weekly while the starting date of KUT-NCE has been moved forward.
