Airport Pocket Guides from the 1980s/90s

Sun Aug 25, 2019 12:04 am

Hello all...

I am reaching out to the a.net community to ask for some help. Moderators, if this is the wrong forum, please move to wherever you feel appropriate.

I am trying to come across an old publication titled "Airport Pocket Guide" that was published by A.M. Data Services in the 1980s and 90s.

I am searched high and low for any copies of this (apparently it was updated frequently).

I have searched amazon and ebay for several years now to no avail.

If anyone has any suggestions on where any of the editions could be obtained, I would be most appreciative.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

enilria,

I am looking for old airport terminal diagrams. I did not think the OAG began publishing those in their desktop additions until the early 90s. I was trying to get diagrams older than that.

Am I incorrect? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have a couple of those books, but like you, I've searched multiple times as well and am unable to find any others, and unfortunately I do not even remember where I got the two that I have

Yes, they certainly seem hard to come by, xjetflyer2001!

Somebody posted a fantastic gallery of detailed terminal maps here within the last couple years from either the OAG or another source, if this helps. One of them showed gate locations for airlines at many airports.

I do recall that, DeltaRules. I am trying to get my hands on my own copy so I can scan the diagrams for a project I work on.

Not correct on the OAG. The terminal diagrams were in the publications as far back as the 1960's.

Yup, the OAG travel supplements had terminal diagrams going way back (I believe they appeared in 1964), but only for major cities. They were in the OAG travel guides that were published as companions to the actual OAG listings.

The "Airport Pocket Guides" published by AM Data Services had something like 50+ major airports in them. I believe they appeared in the mid-80s and were published through the early 1990s. I have the summer 1990 edition - my parents bought it for me at a B. Dalton Bookseller in the suburbs of Dallas. My version even lists an international edition as "coming soon," although I've never seen any proof that happened.

I've seen scans from earlier editions posted from time to time and they are a really fantastic source of information - especially cool to see airline locations change up as the first round of airline consolidation occurred in the late 1980s. They do seem to be very rare nowadays - other than eBay I'm not sure where else they can be found.

Were these from the past where the internet was virtually non-existent?

Yes, the ones I am looking for are from the 1980s, before the web took off in the 1990s.

I saw someone rip a page off the in-flight magazine on the airport maps. Does that count?
