B744 Global Supertanker - Any avionics modifications?

Sun Aug 25, 2019 12:11 pm

Hi All,

[My first question after reading this forum for the past 10 years ;-) ]

Anyway, seeing the Global Supertanker flying so low to the ground in a seemingly normal B744 I thought what changes (if any) were made to the avionics and / or alerting systems. I can imagine that when bringing this airplane so low to the ground the EGPWS system must be screaming about terrain etc. (TOO LOW TERRAIN, PULL UP, etc.).

Does anyone here know about any modifications done to this aircraft so the pilots are not distracted by these alerts?

Pilots may turn off switch warnings. They know what they are doing.

Ah. So on the flightdeck nothing actually changed then (aside from the firefighting systems)?
I somewhat expected a switch to be added to supress any warnings while flying this low and re-enable them when they fly back to base.

Could you imagine what an A380 ultra xl super duper tanker could do?

Pushbuttons to suppress terrain and configuration EGPWS warnings are standard on 330/350.

Same on 747?
