Canadian lobster to China

Tue Aug 27, 2019 6:22 am

Donald Trump's trade war with China has crippled the US lobster export to China, I read with interest that lobster from Canada has increased in demand.in a big way. Whose Canadian Cargo operations is faciitating that? Is it non stop or a few days????

Most goes through Halifax (YHZ) with some from Moncton (YQM). Air Canada would facilitate some of that movement, but Korean Air Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, Skylease Cargo and CAL Cargo would be providing the bulk capacity from Halifax. There are occasionally other direct Chinese Cargo Carriers that go through during holiday periods. I believe Kalitta Air Cargo handles the main lobster shipments from Moncton, though other cargo operators have stopped for special shipments - Ethiopian Airlines Cargo came through a couple of times.

Nope, 757s only fly fish - not lobster. And only from Iceland.

Not that big of a deal around here (Nova Scotia). Some years you can get lobster at McDonalds. It is available from countless food trucks. Back in the old days the poor kids would have lobster sandwiches at school. The rich kids had bologna.

I’ve been to NS several times. Doesn’t change the fact that I’d like to have a widebody full of lobster in me.

(Crab is still better, though. Shots fired.)

I'm pleased that it took only five replies in to get to 757s, fish, and Iceland. Good work, boys.

Yes, they started that after downsizing the YHZ-LHR to a 737 MAX from a 767. They needed a way to get the Lobster in to the cargo system.
It was timed to be an quick turn between A333 YUL TATL crossings. AC will often use their widebodies for a short domestic run (usually YUL-YYZ) between TATL crossing to increase aircraft utilization.

That was summer 2018 though. I've heard that since then there is a new cargo flight added from YHZ to Europe (Cargojet maybe?).

Yes but no DTW though! Although that’s probably nothing to be pleased about, other than get a laugh.

(Although I guess with a thread about lobster should bring up the fish).
