Midwest Express Route Announcements-August 28th

Tue Aug 27, 2019 9:52 pm

https://www.tmj4.com/news/local-news/mi ... -wednesday

According to local Milwaukee media, both the Midwest Express President and Elite Airways President will be making a major announcement tomorrow morning, Wednesday August 28th at MKE. It is reported that they will display their first Midwest Express branded aircraft and unveil the first cities the airline will be flying to. Any guesses?

Will these be Elite Airways CRJ-200 or -700? Guessing -200...

Grand Rapids is going to be a new destination for them. They announce that tomorrow at 1:55pm, a new airline will be arriving into Grand Rapids to announce service and the CEO will be on the plane to announce it.

This is actually happening!

It appears as if they will be flying at concourse D. My guesses for routes are MKE-PIT, CMH/CVG, IND, and SDF. Maybe a one-stop or nonstop to RDU or RIC if we’re lucky.

Edit: N96EA (CRJ200) arrived at MKE Monday from PWM.

Once they’re ready for their own aircraft Midwest Express might be a good place for Embraer to place their ERJ-175 E2s. Seems the perfect size for their operation, catering to business travelers from MKE throughout the Midwest and Northeast.

If it indeed N96EA, that has been flying the line for Elite over the last couple of months. No time for paint.

I don't think Embraer can wait 5+ years for that to happen.

Yuck a CR2? Should’ve gone for an E170/175. Product is usually much better.

Per article, Elite Airways will own the planes, but the interior and soft product will be owned by Midwest.

A bit underwhelming, but it’s a start.

Google Images have pics of N96EA in Elite branding I could not copy and paste. As noted above, assume a sticker of some type for Midwest.
I hope that Elite is able to operate a more reliable operation for them. Not a stellar reputation in markets in FL for their reliability and performance with limited frequencies.
The original Midwest was a great airline with a devoted group of employees and a great service philosophy.

Could they get the -200 to LGA/EWR/JFK or BOS or IAD/DCA effectively with alternate fuel and wind and full pax? Because those all seem like good target markets.

No way Embraer is going to launch an aircraft with an uncertain future with an airline that currently has no future.

I flew a CRJ200 from MKE-PHL on USExpress several years ago after attending the Air Venture show in Oshkosh so likely DC or NY somewhat doable.
Its just not a comfortable ride for 2.5+ hours and the business market they want to attract will not be happy with its limited carry-on space and tight seating.

Aretakis is a serious player and his resume is a mile long. He was at YX, F9, Vanguard, etc all as VP of revenue or Network. Plus he started Shuttle America himself. So he’s no joke, but still hard to finance a new airline of you aren’t David Neeleman.

PEOPLExpress wasn't 380. It was Vision Airlines dba PEOPLExpress. From what I can gather, this will be the same

Those seem like markets they would get killed on. They need to target mid sized cities with some demand and no non stop service from MKE.

WN already serves LGA, DCA, and BWI nonstop from MKE. DL also already serves LGA nonstop from MKE, and UA also already serves EWR nonstop from IAD.

I could see UA adding MKE-IAD nonstop service as MKE is located in the largest Midwestern metro area not served nonstop from IAD.

Fingers crossed that OMA will be one of the destinations announced. I live in SAV now and not OMA any more, but I still pull for OMA. I remember the little mini focus city they had there years ago.

I think going east to CLE, CMH , PIT,etc. can work as the drives are severely hampered by the Lake and Chicagoland!

GRR is probably a Meijer contract as just MKE GRR won't work without significant feed from major cities.

Thanks for posting a pic -- I saw one on a FB page which was private, but this one is a much better perspective. They had an inflight recruiting event today -- I would guess they had more than a few applicants.

The CRJ is not a particularly delightful aircraft but for a nonstop business-timed flight it's certainly bearable for 40-90 minutes to avoid a connection or 5-9 hours in a car. Plus a lot of the existing connecting options to the likely Midwest Express cities involve one or both legs on a 50-seat RJ.

I was an elite-level Midwest traveler for quite a few years and the majority of my flights were the very 250-450 mile hops Midwest Express plans to serve. Rarely did my employer (actually client as our travel was direct-billed) pay less than $200-$250 one way. If they can (eventually) get those kind of fares they should do okay even if they don't pack the planes.

Minor league paint job and branding. Disappointing. But, again, I bet Republic holds the trademarks for the last Midwest.

Well, its been just over two years since we first learned of the plans to bring back Midwest. Honestly, at the time I didn't have the highest hopes that something would actually materialize. I just hope they know what they're doing and this doesn't become another short-lived attempt at an airline that quickly flames out.

rajincajun01 wrote:

I landed at MKE around midnight coming from ATL. Before heading home I drove past the old Skyway hanger and got a glimpse of the aircraft. The hanger door was open and the lights were on so it's not exactly hidden. I suppose the livery looks better than the mockup they had on the website, but all white? I was hoping for CR7s also.

I noticed today that they've installed a new jetbridge (D35) adjacent to the ground-level boarding gates that were most recently used by OneJet. Has anyone been using this new gate?

If I recall correctly the new jetbridge is D28. It's been up for quite a few months and is a common-use gate -- it got some activity during the winter-spring peak.

D does seem the most likely home for Midwest Express as it has more slack than. I don't see a reason they'd use the old Midwest Connect ground-boarding facilities. Even in the last year or two of the Frontier hub the RJ flights used jetways as much as possible.

I think PIT and CMH are most likely eventually. CLE is already served by WN twice daily... I don't see a new carrier entering that market.

That's a pretty impressive turnaround for the livery.

N96EA flew its last regular Elite revenue flight in the afternoon of 8/22 EWR-VRB. It then ferried VRB-LEW (where it appears Elite does most of their maintenance) late morning on 8/24, it ferried LEW-PWM-MKE in the afternoon of 8/26.

In Cleveland, they could do MKE-BKL, so would be a different product than WN's, plus they'd be returning to an airport they used to serve (BKL-DET).

Im curious if it is going to be all 200's, or if they will get some 700's to mix in. Love the livery, simple but nice. Milwaukee Brewers colors!

As a frequent business traveler out of MKE alot of the routes mentioned above, PIT, GRR, CMH IND are all cities I need to get to. If true I will be flying this ALOT. However the thought of being on a 200 most of the time is a downer.

CVG is a very good add IMO, especially since DL cut that route last year and it's now unserved.
