Taxiway Sierra project at SFO

Thu Aug 29, 2019 6:52 pm

Did this project get completed?

https://www.flysfo.com/about-sfo/airpor ... iwaysierra

SFO website says yes but Google Maps shows it looks the same.

On my Google maps view, it looks like Sierra was completed.

Per the concept wasn't runway 10R suppose to be shortened?

The website mentions the project is done with 10R departures in mind. How often are the 10s in use? When I'm doing my sim flying, SFO and FLR are the only two airports where I never have to wonder the direction I'll be landing.

The diagram you're looking at is the temporary construction condition, not the final configuration. The Google Map link you posted is the finished product with taxiway realignment - if you use Google Earth and look back to 2017 or earlier, you'll see the previous alignment of the taxiway did not provide for 90-degree crossings of 10R over the piano keys where the new configuration does.

Just as a reminder, sometime between 2012 and 2014, 10R/28L was extended and thus it created the need for Taxiway Sierra realignment.

By the way - maybe I missed one, but looking at the google image on this link, I don’t see one single plane at a gate, at any concourse. I find it very odd. Am I missing something?

For whatever reason, SFO is one of the airports that chooses to have Google scrub the images of all aircraft.
Airport (noun) - A construction site which airplanes tend to frequent

Yep, this is what we've come to in this country. This is a win. A taxiway extension/realignment.

China just built a entire massive new airport in record time while San Francisco has human feces in the streets, and they accomplished a taxiway improvement. Yoo hoo!

How about 2 new runways built on reclaimed land in the bay?

Will never happen because it affects a rare clam /s kinda. California building new infrastructure would definitely mean the world would be ending.

In SoCal, it can feel that you are in the '70s in some areas since it has been that long since any work has been done to infrastructure or housing
