Emergency landing at London Stansted, planes holding and diverting

Fri Aug 30, 2019 6:43 am

It looks like G-SMLA was on final approach and just before landing went off radar, all planes are stopped on ground and flights are holding in the air, anyone know what happened?

The flight was from SEN-FCO, shortly after takeoff there is a change in course and a possible return to SEN, then a holding pattern and divert to STN. As STN is designated airport for threats perhaps a disruptive passenger?

Jota is a charter airline, and per flight number it seems it was just positioning to FCO to operate out of there, so I'd for sure rule out a disruptive passenger.
To me it seems it could be a technical problem that would make difficult landing back in SEN with their short runway, so STN is the closest alternative.

Aircraft in question:

I only turn left when boarding aircraft. Well, mostly. All right, sometimes. OH OKAY - rarely.

So, what happened to the plane? An aircraft going off radar isn't usually a good sign...

Since the aircraft in question has now landed in Rome I think it's safe to assume that all is okay.
