Edelweiss A340 YVR-SAN

Fri Aug 30, 2019 9:34 pm

Hi!

Flightradar24 currently shows an Edelweiss A340-313, HB-JMF enroute YVR-SAN as EDW5019. That's a rather unusual route for this aircraft, to say the least. It appears its last previous flight was ZRH-YVR on 8/2. The return to ZRH was then canceled. Does anyone know what happened? Serious mx issue at YVR causing a near one month grounding? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: cruising now at FL410, which for an A340-313 suggests an empty aircraft on a repositioning flight.

Collided with an AC 787. Has been parked at YVR for a while with the APU region taped up awaiting repairs.

Edelweiss cancelled ZRH-SAN, and uses the now repaired -JMF to operate the return SAN-ZRH. Smart way to reschedule the frame into service and reduce flight cancellations and positioning flights at the same time.
The other option was cancelling ZRH-SAN + SAN-ZRH & reposition empty YVR-ZRH. Makes perfect sense to me.
