Rumoured ANA Haneda-Istanbul Service

Sun Sep 01, 2019 3:55 am

https://www.forbes.com/sites/willhorton ... -istanbul/ Interesting article on how NH will use Haneda slots. Will NH fly to Istanbul and deepen partnership with LH rival TK?

If TK gets its long-sought HND slots, a Japanese carrier will reciprocate with service to Turkey.

With TK50/TK51 restarting next April on 3x weekly, could we see it being switched to HND, with NH picking up the other 4 days (accounting for the 0.5 slot).

If TK ever gets access to HND it will most likely be daily frequency - or at least Japan would award them with a daily frequency.

IST is long rumoured within ANA (at least 3 years; PER and BRU were the other rumoured ones and both came into fruition) so I won't be surprised.

Think Vladivostok actually was announced by both ANA & JAL but no one has loaded the schedule yet.

Vladivostok would be quite logical, considering the amount of trade going on between Japan and that part of Russia.

Considering how touristic Turkey is, it is strange that no Japanese airline serve IST when KE & OZ do.
Until 2014, Turkey saw more Japanese visitors than Koreans even though Korean Air and Asiana both flew to Istanbul while no Japanese carrier did. Japanese passengers will typically pay more to fly on a Japanese carrier than a foreign one, adding to prospects for ANA.

And this is exactly what should not happen in a JV, that is why national laws limit foreign investment in national airlines, 25% to 50% max. These alliances are dodging the spirit of the law, it is not LH's legal business to dictate carriers' strategies from the other side of the world.
Lufthansa initially rejected ANA from cooperating with LOT Polish Airlines since Lufthansa would have preferred any ANA-LOT passengers to fly ANA-Lufthansa. Even though LOT is part of ANA and Lufthansa’s Star Alliance, JVs take priority. Turkish is also in Star Alliance, but has an especially constrained relationship with Lufthansa. Turkish is a rising connector airline, akin to the Gulf superconnectors that also challenge Lufthansa’s connecting traffic.

Official - ANA awarded a daily frequency to Turkey effective S20.

Likewise, Turkey awarded a daily frequency for Haneda service.

If I recall correctly, the area between West Europe and East Asia was a hole being identified in their network that needs to be addressed?
When no other countries around the world is going to militarily stop China and its subordinate fom abusing its citizens within its national boundary, it is unreasonable to expect those abuse can be countered with purely peaceful means.
