Any reason why TUI haven't expanded their operations from London Southend Airport?

Mon Sep 02, 2019 7:42 am

TUI operate a summer seasonal 1 x weekly flight from SEN to PMI - I think on Tuesday's? It's actually operated by Volotea.

Any particular reason why they haven't expanded their operations here? I know they'll be limited with aircraft at the moment due to the MAX aircraft being grounded, but long term, I thought SEN would be able to base a B737 there and operate to a dozen bucket and spade routes?

They're hamstrung by a lack of aircraft this summer. They've already got quite a few wet leased aircraft operating for them.

Whether they want to compete with U2 & FR at a relatively small airport is another matter entirely. We shall see when/if the MAX issues are resolved.

Well, unless some of their B737 NGs are equipped with SFP, it's not really possible to base them in the airport, as per runway lenght.

With the MAXes it could be a different story, but I think those have not been tested yet in Southend.

Yep, aware of the MAX issues. I was thinking more long term.

Didn't think about the SFP issue. I'm guessing that's why Volotea operate the route on TUI's behalf?
