Air India slams CAPA report

Mon Sep 02, 2019 4:36 pm

Air India didn't seem too happy over a CAPA report claiming the Indian LCC- IndiGo to have taken over Air India as the largest international carrier out of India.

The CAPA report made the analysis based purely on seat count on departures out of the country, rather than ASK which would have been an ideal reference to measure the same.

Never knew airlines took CAPA so seriously :D

Actually impressed that AI posted a rebuttal with actual data.

Where are the RPKs? Flying empty seats doesn't count (ASKs).

Now, I don't think AI has such bad load factor to not be #1 on RPK.

But who is #1 on passengers to/ from India?

There are different measures of #1.

AI certainly isn't profit.

Lightsaber

ASK/ASM isnt a useful metric for an airline with only a short haul fleet. Both 6E and IX obviously score lower.

Not sure why AI is so mad. Not like consumers even know what CAPA is or care.

I still remember it seems yesterday that CAPA was convinced that Etihad's equity investment is the future of airlines cooperatio and alliance will be died within years. Oh well, the disgraced Hogan left Etihad in life support, while the airline alliance is getting stronger by joint ventures and investment within.

Air India should just left it alone. Taking seriously with CAPA will only drag AI into the battle for the new low.

Actually, CAPA seems to be really partial to LCCs, from what I've seen from them. They don't always write critical articles about an LCC even when said LCC is struggling: for example, I remember them being optimistic about Fastjet in the past despite them doing poorly, and we all know what happened to Fastjet.
