REALLY BIG DEAL! Many of the gate agents, cabin crews and pilots made aircraft specific announcements on my flights. I met a few captains waiting for flights that talked with me about their time with the maddogs. It will be sorely missed by many of them. On that max performance climb departure we rocketed out of a rainy Atlanta on my last flight. Even the flight attendant displayed a smile at the steep takeoff and he was not a fan. I will never forget!

Most of the people from Delta I met during my last maddog flights made it memorable. It reminded me of my first flights on maddogs long ago. I met other fans also during this week. It is interesting that MD90's N909DA & N963DN were stuck in QRO awaiting heavy maintenance when the COVID-19 crisis struck. Will these simply remain at QRO for scrapping, or are they airworthy enough to make one last trip to BYH?

Another oddball is MD90 N910DN which apparently isn't at BYH, but is listed as "stored". Is it still sitting in ATL?

As for the MD88's, is Delta planning to have a big "squadron flight" of the final 24 to BYH on Tuesday?

I was on one yesterday SRQ-ATL. Nice steep climb (about 2800 fpm) and we touched FL360 for a minute (we had filed for 370) before heading back down to 340. I can't recall ever going above 350 on an 88 so that was a first.

DL must have opened up seats they were holding back for VIPs/employees or something. I posted this further upthread, but I tried buying a seat when the flight was first announced but on Delta.com seats in all fare categories were shown as sold out.

Douglas Aircraft I hope you mean... Delta Jets in 1940 would be complicated to explain...

And yes Delta has flown every model Douglas jet and most of the props... Sad end to such a long history.

My day job involves flying DC-10s so I'll say that combined with sufficient passenger time on AA and DL MD-80s as "good enough". I feel like the Long Beach employees might be sad to hear your thoughts on the MD-95 however.

I know these things can change, but it appears as if the final MD-88 flight will be operated by N900DE. Is there any reason that aircraft is special, or are they just operating with whatever?

As far as I know it was the 100th MD-88 delivered to DL, but I don't think that this is the reason why it will fly the last flight. Just some scheduling reasons

There is currently 1 final ferry out of ATL planned for Wed. Otherwise the M88's flying into ATL Tue AM on their final revenue flights will then turn and depart for Blytheville - except one.

Flew on 912DL, 910DE, 908DE, and 717JL today. 912 is a 32 year old -88 and she is definitely ready to be put to bed. One of the spoiler panels on the right wing doesn't deploy, the rear door squeals during climb out and descent, and some window panels are held in with tape. But it was such a thrill to fly on such an old girl. She had that fumey MD-80 smell that permeates the cabin during taxi and she took off like a rocket. I can't imagine how many people she has flown throughout the years. I'm going to miss these old smokey birds.

Every MD-80 flight I was on was the crew's last flight on an MD-80. Some would fly to the outstation only to ride as a passenger on the return trip. It is definitely the end of an era.

I was a ramp agent at PWM 20 years ago when the -88 was the only plane DL flew to our station. I think I've probably loaded and serviced every one of the MD-88 at one point, and flown on many, too. Tomorrow will be a sad day. There will no longer be any of the classic jets I grew up with. Just 737, A320s, and Rjs for the most part. I don't even enjoying spotting anymore.

Flight DL1995 operated by M90 / Registration N925DN will be making her final landing tonight at IAH around 832pm central time. IAH will probably never see another M90 land here. Ship 9225 will head back to ATL tomorrow morning as flight DL90 and sadly that will be her final revenue flight. The only M90 I flew on was N919DN on 15 December 2019 from ATL to IAH. I was fortunate enough to be seated in first class, but I can remember the passengers filing past me and I was thinking to myself “where are all of these people going to sit on this plane?” The only thing I didn’t like was no PTV. Godspeed to the Delta M90. You’ve served your passengers and crews well.

No. I was on the first 717 AirTran got and immediately walked to the back (I was at ASA on C Concourse and she was sitting on the end of C). That new plane smell was wonderful.

Well, end of an era and unfortunately due to the state of the industry/world unable to get the send-off they deserve.
I know many of us planned to get in some more MD88 flight in 2020 and MD90s as well that still up until about 80 days ago were likely to be around a few more years.

123 DL MD-88 flights over the years for me. Being in DTW, I only flew DL occasionally up until the merger, so my first DL MD-88 flight was in 2006. At the time MD80 series flights were a dime-a-dozen with so much MD-80 flying between AA and DL it wasn't anything interesting at the time. Once the merger with NW, the MD-88s started showing up in DTW and my flying on the type increased significantly. Routes from DTW including BDL, BWI, DCA, PHL, BOS, STL, of course ATL. Then last year I was flying near weekly through ATL and 1-2 MD88 flights weekly. I was on 53 MD-88 flights in 2019 alone, and I didn't realize it but my last MD-88 flight was almost a year ago to the day on ICT-ATL.

27 MD-90 flights in the books for me. First one was in 2011 after DL grew the fleet and started putting them into DTW. My flights on them were almost entirely limited to DTW-DEN, MSP, & ATL, with a few BWI, PHL, and IND in the mix. I never really had strong feelings for this type other than the exotic factor. From a passenger comfort perspective it was very meh. Plus I think it was the slowest aircraft to board, and was awful for bin space on business heavy flights. My final flight on this type was Feb 2019 on ATL-DTW.
