Maybe if they improved their airports and made the flying experience less of a pain in the derrière.

NYDN article says:

“There is one irritant that is often ignored, and this is the level of farting within the aircraft," Gogo said. “There are passengers who literary irritate fellow passengers by passing bad smell and uncomfortable fart. If there is anyone given irritant that makes people fight on board, it is the fart, it is terrible within the plane.”

Gogo told fellow legislators that if she’s the only one among them who’s encountered this problem, they should consider themselves “very lucky.” The longer the flight, she argued, the worse the problem.

“We cannot be secure on board when the other passengers are experiencing discomfort,” she said. “Farting and flatulence is done progressively and can be contained.”

All I can say is, "sorry!" and "pull my finger!"

Is Kenyan flatulence really any more nasty-smelling than non-Kenyan flatulence?

I did spend 10 hours in Singapore Airlines business class with a fellow passenger who probably should have gone to the toilet a bit more. Punishing him with jail didn't quite cross my mind, but I will keep it in mind for the next time!

Even better. Maybe we should ban Kenyan politicians from planes unless the plane is on a one way trip to a maximum security prison.

The most common anti-flatulence drug is simethicone, marketed in the USA as "GAS-X" and "MYLICON."

*80% of bowel gas in a typical adult is swallowed air.
*In the bowel, gas usually exists as a series of small bubbles (a foam...but don't think too much about it because you'll get images in your head for which I cannot be responsible).
*Simethicone is a surfactant. It makes these smaller bubbles coalesce together into a few large bubbles that are easier for the gut to manage and expel, reducing bloating and discomfort. It also allows the gas to be expelled in a few instances of flatus, rather than a single large one.
*A typical adult, even a "gassy" one will only emit about 250mL of flatus per day.
*Simethicone is very safe, is not absorbed into the body, and generally doesn't have any detectable side-effects.

Boeing and Airbus are missing a trick here with their 787s and A350s. The 'activated carbon structure' option. Perhaps on the NSA and A360.

There is always a feeling of inevitability when it comes to farting on planes, I would have been arrested on multiple counts over on the BKK-AKL flight I just arrived on this morning..
Where does it stop? BO? Smelly feet? Overpowering cologne? Do 180 people get arrested on every arrival?? Let me tell you, when you open a 777 aircraft door after a long flight the pressure equalizing valve that pushed the inside air out blasts 12h of farts, smelly socks and body odour in your face. Shall we collect this as evidence?

They should make it Kenyan law that "who smelt it dealt it". By that rationale, the lawmaker should be arrested as soon as this bill becomes law.

Makes me glad we have television but not smell-o-vision!

Where I work there is a free Chinese food buffet at lunch every other Friday.

By mid afternoon one needs to search to find an unoccupied toilet, and hope one can bear the stench when they find a free one.

This alone caused me to bring my own lunch, despite the temptation of the free food.

All you have to do is serve each passenger a "Gas-X" brand strip (with their meal) which dissolves in your mouth and addresses the problem. And it probably costs 1 cent when purchased in bulk. Heck, all airlines should have such a policy.

Out of all the things that make flying a miserable experience at times, odour of other passengers actually is a rarity, in my experience.

Try tackling: decreasing seat pitch/width, all ancillary fees, cattle boarding procedures, lack of cleaning standards, and US3 airlines that don't think flight attendants should clean toilets on 12 hours flights.

Exactly right I use it regularly, its sold here in Australia as Degas. So to get rid of the bloating it means you'll burn and
fart more.... it doesn't magically dissolve it.

But just a thought, if Airlines started seeing pax for this.... couldn't pax then countersue for being served bad food (even if
its cheap buy on board options, especially the junk food) as causing this? They clearly haven't thought this one
through.

I already suspected there was something wrong with this woman, and that has now been confirmed. She eats ugali and fish with a fork! :irked:

Miguna attacks Rangwe MP for allegedly using fork to eat ugali, fish

"I knew that something was wrong with this woman when I saw her eating ugali and fish with a fork, twice. In Luo culture, it is an abomination for a grown up to do that. This is how low the con-man's sycophants have reduced themselves to," Miguna tweeted on Friday.

The vocal lawyer made the remarks after the MP was quoted by a local publication demanding for a law to combat farting on planes.

I find it hilarious that a country like Kenya (absolutely stunning, amazing scenery and natural wonders, but where do we start enumerating the so many issues like poverty and social dilapidations?) has the 'guts' to publicly worry about farting on a plane....

Onboard flatulence is a result of lower cabin pressure at altitude. Pure physics and there is nothing that can be done about it except don't eat certain stuff before a flight.

Maybe they should require by law individual seat fresh air vents?

It just takes one explosive decompression (the plane that is, not the passengers) onboard and the pilots may as well divert to the nearest prison!

A friend of mine once ate a lot of durian and drank lots of beer with it before a flight. This resulted in a small uproar in part of the cabin. He did not dare to confess that it was him.
