Rumour SAS take over 4 stored Hong Kong Airlines A330-343E?

Sun Sep 15, 2019 7:05 am

At AeroInternational.com someone talks about an event that SAS Will take 4 aircraft from Hong Kong Airlines stored A330-343E .Thats make sense becuse this aircraft is simmular to SAS new Enhanced version with RR Trent700 engines and 242tone MTOW. It is a rumour at this point but it makes sense that SAS pics them with a good price.

It has logic the Airbus A340-300 will be replaced with Airbus A350-900, in the A330 fleet there are 4 models that are from (2002-2003) and possibly this purchase replaces them, another thing that I never understood because HNA Group bought so many planes ????

MSN 1863 first flew in March 2018. Since then it has been shuttled between Toulouse and Chateauroux a few times but it has never left France as far as I can tell. It flew most recently in July of this year and is now in Toulouse. Might it be having an SAS cabin installed?

MSN 1865 first flew in April 2018. It also has been back and forth between Toulouse and Chateauroux which is where it currently is.

MSN 1874 first flew in July 2018 and is currently in Chateauroux.

MSN 1902 first flew in October 2018. In November it flew to Tianjin for completion. It is still there.

MSN 1907 first flew in November 2018 and in the same month was transferred to Tianjin.

But are these A330-343Es? I don't know.

In the SAS livery thread, SAS appear to confirm that they are adding five (5) "new" A330-300E.

Not sure that those 2002-03 frames will need an immidiate replacement.
If they are not.so close to their end of their life cycle, then why retire them? In recent years we can see how the A330ceo becomes more and more viable.
And for the stored frames, it seems they're like gold just waiting to be taken.

Increasing maintence costs, impending C/D Checks, noncompetitive lease terms are all plausible reasons in cases like these
Q400, A320-200, A321-200, 737-500, 737-800, 747-400, 757-200, 787-9 // FCA, TOM, TUI, MON, MT, BA, VS, DL, BE, X9, OLY // Upcoming: EVA 77W, AS A320, VS 787, VS A350

Where did you read that? Are you sure that you haven't mistaken that for the 5 "new" A330E's that they already operate, where the fifth one was delivered a few months ago?

That's true, but if they'll take all 5 frmaes, they will still have 1 "extra".
If they will take 4, whom will take just 1?

This rumour is completely new to me. And their current 4 A330-300 from 2003-2004 should have a lot of life left

It is more like the current 5 A330-300E will het the current livery IMHO. Sometimes things are a little «lost in translation» .....

Take a look at reply #77 in the SAS livery thread and make your own minds up...

New extensive fleet
In total, as a part the modernization of the short and long-haul fleet, SAS will take delivery of 80 new Airbus A320neo, 5 new Airbus A330 Enhanced, 8 new Airbus A350, and 3 new Airbus A321LR aircraft before the end of 2023.

The A350s will replace the A340's although it's not confirmed if they keep some A340s after all the A350s have been delivered.
I don't know whether this rumour is true or not, I've haven't read about it anywhere else, but if it is I would expect them to replace the 4 old A330s (LN-RKN, LN-RKM, LN-RKO and LN-RKH). SAS will also soon take delivery of 3 A321LR's, so I can't see 7 new longhaul aircraft for an expansion. That would be nearly 50% increase of their LH fleet
Types flown: A319, A320, A32N, A321, A332, A333, A343, AT43, AT75, AT76, B717, B732, B735, B736, B737, B738, B752, B753, CRJ9, DC10, DH4D, DHC3, E135, E145, E175, E190, E195, F100, MD11, MD81, MD82, MD87, RJ1H

I think we can trace back to HNA Group shopping spree in past decade when they took up many assets, aviation and non aviation, in order to create a global conglomerate. The China Government realised the Group debt fueled shopping spree is not sustainable in long term, hence slammed the brake on financial loan by asking local banks not to fund any them anymore. The decks of cards started to crumble since then.

What I understand is those A330 are meant for all their member airlines. They have 20 A330 due for delivery when the financial crisis hits them. Out of these 20, more than half are still waiting for delivery or to be allocated MSN in production line. Their current A350 and 787 order are also impacted. Few B787 are painted all white sitting at PAE now waiting new owner and A350 in full livery at TLS also waiting for money to be released.

That's old. It complies to the already delivered A330-300E's. A lot of the then 80 A320Neo have also been delivered

If you say so. But it must be very old since the first of those five A330s was delivered four years ago. It also follows a statement about the new livery. But what do I know? *shrug*

I'm pretty sure that I know my local airline better. The fleet modernization they are talking about started in 2011, when they ordered the first 30 A320Neos (Most are already delivered). In 2013 they ordered 4 A330E's (already delivered) and 8 A350's. In 2018 they ordered one additional A330E to replace LN-RKP and 50 additional A320Neo. Earlier this year they ordered 3 A321LR's. All these add up in the text written by SAS. 30+50=80. That's the A320Neo. 4+1=5. That's the A330E. 8 A350's and 3 A321LR's

Thank you for confirming that they are A330-300Es.

And I'm  because you appeared to be stating what I and everyone else already knew.

1. SAS might (?!) be taking Hong Kong Airlines A330s.
2. Aha, say I, that would be these MSNs.
3. These MSNs, you say, belong to (or are on order for) Hong Kong Airlines.
4. Er, yes... That's why I listed them.

Now I'm really

Has Airbus built a non E A330 since the mid 2000s??? AFAIK the E doesnt denote the latest MTOW per se, just some system changes which IIRC were first fitted to the Northwest planes.
