Plane identification

Sun Sep 15, 2019 2:44 pm

Hello. New on this forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place. Does anyone know which plane this is? My caption says "Pan Am Clipper, 1948", but it doesn't look anything like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_314_Clipper

I'd like to know if this type of plane was in operation in 1940-1942.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Well there's no link to what you're talking about, or the screen shots didn't load properly, so not sure.

I don't know why my attached screenshots aren't appearing. Here's a link to the image: https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DumxxEaf4a0/ ... C_1949.jpg

That's a Stratocruiser for sure. I think most Pan Am planes were called "Clipper"s. If I'm wrong, correct me.

You posted two different planes—the first is a 314 flying boat-1939-1941 when they were taken up for war effort. Th3 pic over NYC is a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, early to mid fifties.

1949 in the caption sounds better -- the B377 was likely new. The Emp State Bldg got its antenna circa 1950.
