IAD-PEK CA818 suffered a left engine anomaly on departure from IAD today. Plane circled south of the DC area for a while before returning to IAD.

This happened right as left work near IAD - saw a helicopter hovering and tuned into tower in time to hear the landing. Funny thing is, I was on that runway a couple days ago running the 10k for the annual Dulles Day event Sat!

Footage of the landing is amazing, probably top 10% of 777 landings I've ever seen, and with one engine.

Can you provide a link to view the landing footage?

The NBC affiliate in DC broke into their nightly news last night to show the landing. When the aircraft turned off the runway the #1 was still running, although I couldn't tell if it was at idle thrust or what.

The landing looked absolutely normal.

They didn't use reverse on #1 - are you sure it was still running or was it just windmilling? I was under the impression that it was secured fairly early on in the flight.
