And the idea that there will/may be a CBP facility at terminal A is just ludicrous. The terminal just doesn't have the space to build such a facility which in itself would be a massive project, but CBP requires buy in (and staffing) from the Federal government which would pose a completely different type of hurdle. But here's the real reason why terminal A is never getting a CBP facility: Massport isn't about to invest millions in a new International terminal only to see its largest occupant move out. The expansion of terminal E at BOS should have ended any reminaing hope to ever see a CBP facility anywhere else at the airport.

I thought I had read - and correct me, if I am wrong - that Terminal A was designed with the CBP facility included in the building, and was built to those specifications, only to have CBP decline to staff it due to the limited number of flights.

If that is the case, then (1) the space is already there; and (2) a substantial expansion of international flights by DL and its partners could sway the CBP to reconsider their position.

Nope. A CBP facility was never built in terminal A. It was considered but dropped before it was built. Terminal A never had a CBP facility.

I’ve seen the video. It is on the main page of deltanet and is a conversation between Ed and the head of Network planning. I am paraphrasing, but the head of Network is talking about domestic growth in Boston creating a foundation for BOS to be a new gateway to Europe and he says to Ed “you’re going to announce a couple new ones next week in Boston . . . and we will have 11 transatlantic departures a day next summer in Boston”

How are they going to add new routes with only 22 gates? They are pretty close to full capacity right now.

Out of the top 15 listed above, the only one not currently served from BOS is ATH. By the way, BOS also happens to be ATH’s top unserved North American route.
ATH officials were quoted a few weeks ago saying there would be big long-haul developments in 2020 and nothing has been announced so far.
My money is on ATH + MAD or BCN.

After ATH, the remaining top 9 completely unserved Western Europe to BOS routes are MIL/VCE/BER/ARN/GVA/BRU/FLR/VIE. The Swiss airport report I got the numbers from only lists Top 25 O+D in 2018 and only 9 are unserved.

See page 1: https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/859c15_f ... 564d1b.pdf

My guess the 10th would be one of the following: DUS OSL EDI (unserved in 2018) or GLA.

HAM had more passengers to BOS in 2018 than BER and DUS, so HAM should be among those TOP10.

One way to BOS westbound 2018

BER: 9.787
DUS: 9.774
HAM: 10.495

VG Airlines flew BRU-BOS (along with JFK and LAX) briefly in 2002 before going belly-up. I am a bit surprised Brussels Airlines (which uses SABENA's SN code) has never added BOS given that it was said BOS was one of SABENA's stronger transatlantic routes. However, their German corporate overlords might not have wanted the additional capacity across the Atlantic.

Didn't AA also do BRU for a very short time? I read some artcle from ~2009 stating that AA was doing BOS-LHR-BRU on a 767.

That would be a large expansion project. Given all of the other projects happening at Logan over the next 3-4 years (terminal B to C connector, the roadway upgrades, terminal C canopy and curbside expansion, terminal E expansion, terminal E garage), I really can't see Massport taking on another project. There probably won't be any other substantial projects starting before 2023.

At present, there isn't an air side connection between B and C. Massport is starting a project to do this. It's going to be a nice project that will add another gate and overhaul and expand the gate areas.

Well I heard on the radio this morning that Gov. Baker will be a a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Terminal A today (9/23).... so today's the day if anything is going to happen! I tried to find a source online but only found this: "Today - Governor Baker celebrated Delta Air Lines at Logan Airport"

Still have yet to hear anything about Bastian being in Boston though.

Thats not what the article infers. It simply says that the governor will be at Logan to help celebrate Delta Air Lines. Then another sentence, further down in the same paragraph, mentions that the Boston Mayor will be at North Square to attend a ribbon cutting. Here is the direct quote;

TODAY — Gov. Charlie Baker celebrates Delta Air Lines at Logan Airport. Baker, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, Senate President Karen Spilka and House Speaker Robert DeLeo hold a leadership meeting. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh attends a North Square ribbon cutting.

If Charlie shows up, I wonder if there will be an announcement that’s jobs related - either construction or a new/expanded crew base as part of the hoopla.

I know, like I said, I mentioned that I heard about a "ribbon-cutting" on the radio and that this was the only online source that I could find relating to the subject. I did mean to type celebrates instead of celebrated. Though it does sound like they'll just be showing off the new gates, should find out for sure soon though.

But if you take a look at this traveler's Instagram page, it looks like Ed Bastian was on a DL flight to Boston this morning: https://www.instagram.com/violinista03/?hl=en :scratchchin: (they have a photo with Bastian on their flight and their Story shows they flew ATL-BOS)

FCO is A333. What's strange is that DL.com isn't listing the AZ BOS-FCO and the nonstop on DL is extremely expensive ($3K+ for coach) in June...

Looks bookable by June (couldn't find an exact start date though). I sampled 6/19/19 and found this:

CDG looks like a departures at 7:00pm and at 11:00pm, both on 763's (in addition to the AF flight)

FCO looks like 5:00pm departure on an A333

So the CDG flight is essentially moving a flight that AF operated last year to DL this year. Still 3x daily for the JV overall.

BOS-FCO makes a lot of sense, although I'm mildly surprised they're starting it with an A330 and not a 767.

Airlines almost always put out press releases for new long haul flights before they load them for sale. Thus, the OAG thread often doesn't show new long haul adds until the Sunday after they have been announced. However, there are routinely domestic adds/cuts that show up in OAG with no corresponding press release.

I agree with you on the FCO flight; especially if Alitalia will still fly the route and will have some sort of a relationship with Delta. Alitalia alternated between 332 and 333 ex-BOS this summer.

The 5:00 departure on a 333 is interesting too - if it departs from Terminal A, that will be....interesting.

It makes sense especially with the interest of buying Alitalia' stakes. FCO would be more a connections option after AMS/CDG/LHR.

BOS-BRU 1x daily would be nice, or at least 5x weekly. When Sabena flew BOS-BRU it worked well. No one ever did it again, since Sabena went bankrupt back in 2001.

Yes they did, I remember that. They had a BOS-LHR-BRU flight on a 767. That was flight AA 108. That didn't last long, not even a year. I flew JFK-LHR on a 777 connecting on that 767 to BRU. And the return trip to JFK: same itinerary. BRU-LHR on a 767 connecting on a 777 to JFK.
Three years ago they had a BOS-CDG flight on a 757.

The press release : https://news.delta.com/roll-boston-delt ... an-airport

Delta’s expanded presence in Logan Airport’s Terminal A supports the airline’s network growth over the past several years and positions it for more flying yet to come. In 2020, Delta will launch four new trans-Atlantic flights from Boston, including new seasonal service to Rome, the carrier’s second daily flight to Paris and new service to London-Gatwick and Manchester. The carrier will also extend seasonal service between Boston and Edinburgh and Lisbon, two popular destinations added in 2019.

Additionally, Delta has nearly doubled its daily departures out of Boston since 2015. Later this month, Delta will launch new service to Chicago O'Hare, Newark-Liberty and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport beginning Sept. 29, 2019.

Is the EWR/DCA/ORD mainline or regional?

All three are regional, operated by Republic on a mix of mostly E170's or E175's

Sorta surprised that ORD didn't have at least one mainline (A319 or 717) mixed in, but maybe after the flights prove out first
Airports: BOS, JAX, JFK, EWR, LGA, CVG, ATL, CLT, DCA, IAD, STT, PVD, ALB, MCO

Why surprised? It's just starting off and dl is very weak on these routes.

I also really thought ATH stood a chance. I don't think it wouldn't make money, DL's prices to ATH out of JFK are sky high and US-Greece traffic is booming.
Their priority was obviously to connect to Skyteam hubs. Pity neither is a new destination for BOS.
I think ATH will come, probably in a year or two.

Ohhh you are asking for it.

But yeah kind of what I thought it was going to be. It is actually big that they got the terminal back so there is that. I think Delta and JetBlue better get use to each other there. Neither is going away.

Now over on airlinepilotcentral. The Delta pilots are saying they will get a chinch on the new international E gates, any idea if that’s true?

I don't think anyone even hinted at BOM. Although it has a lot of demand it needs a 777 or A350 and Delta doesn't rotate either of those thru BOS.
BOS will be a 767/A330 station for the foreseeable future IMO.

FCO is A333. What's strange is that DL.com isn't listing the AZ BOS-FCO and the nonstop on DL is extremely expensive ($3K+ for coach) in June...

I think the lack of AZ flights on delta.com is because of AZ’s potential exit from the joint venture. In DL’s press release you’ll notice they mention AF/KL/VS but not AZ...
