WTF?...they're peanuts!

Southwest Airlines, which discontinued its practice of giving out complimentary peanuts in August 2018, has recently decided to bring back its “legendary” snacks for shoppers at its online store — and despite the seemingly steep price, the nuts have already sold out.

I giggle...but I would order a ton of Delta's Biscoff cookies

Costco sells the Biscoff cookies, they are great!

I liked the honey roasted, not the lightly salted. Unfortunately, in the first half of 2018 before they axed peanuts, they only served lightly salted.

you can buy biscoff at a lot of stores. publix for example

I buy peanuts and peanut butter by the value pack regularly. Booker T Washington helped the USA meet a protein sufficiency.

To each their own of course but I never saw the appeal behind the dry crumbly biscoff cookies. Granted they’re meant to be had with coffee but their mass appeal has me baffled.

Now stroopwaffel cookies on the other hand, I’ll remain eternally grateful to United for introducing them to me.

They do it’s a small logo though. I still have the cookies from my most recent flight.

And I always enjoyed Southwest peanuts was disappointed they went away. I like on Delta the good size Kind bar though.

This is crazy. These are just made by King Nut and packaged for Southwest. I literally have 10,000s of these in our warehouse. Just with out the Southwest wrapper.

It makes so much more sense now why Trader Joes calls their cookies and cookie butter Speculoos now! I always assumed it was just a name they made up.

After a long day of meetings and the typical CFO BS, there was NOTHING better than 3-4 bags of the peanuts, a diet coke with all the crazy ice they put in it, and watching a storm off in the distance while flying over Texas on a Southwest 737!

Instead of dropping them completely, they could have handed them out as a little parting gift as people exited the plane after the flight. That way it would satisfy the people who looked forward to them, but didn't create issues for people with peanut sensitivities in confined spaces. Win-win, right?

I have to admit, I almost caved and bought some of these, but I'm kind of a Southwest geek so it's not just about the peanuts for me I guess. I'd love to get some Terra Blues but apparently they're only available on board JetBlue and not sold to the general public, at least not that I've seen...

When I was a SWA CSA, i actually emailed the VP of Ground Ops and pitched the idea of selling the peanuts in retail when they stopped them.

Granted it doesn't come in a cool lunchbox or have the WN logo on them, but you can still buy them in bulk for cheap over at King Nuts, the manufacturer of them.

Still thing WN took the cowards way out and this was an excuse to save costs on snacks, as in my over 15 years of flying them I've never seen an airline so skimpy with free snacks as WN is now. You used to be able to get peanuts & pretzels, peanuts & cookies/crackers, or a snack box depending on the flight length. Now you get JUST one bag of pretzels or JUST one bag of cookies/crackers. Even the majors give out more free snacks now. WN is a dying culture.

Last week I flew on WN from BWI to MCI and back. On both flights I was given a bag of pretzels and a bag of crackers.

It is the same reason why Trump is popular in a certain circle.

It is more than peanuts.

It is political correctness run amok.

People like peanuts when they fly. It has been going on for decades. There is a physiological reason for that: you dehydrate a bit at altitude and salty snacks (as well as tomato juice) come into play.

There are many people that don’t like the masses having their peanuts taken away because of one person with an allergy.

There were probably better ways to handle this but it was much easier for the airlines to just get rid of them.

This is a simple blowback (both for a favorite snack and the right to eat that snack) from the affected masses.


Just my opinion

IF Midwest Express ever gets back in the air, their warm chocolate chip cookies would blow all of the aforementioned free snacks out of the water!

Yes, I've made speculoos at home before. A nice novelty, but requires the right kind of sugar to be done correctly - turbinado, IIRC. Too bad AS doesn't let me sell my batch on flights.
