Could EL TORO airport be a SNA alternative??

Sat Sep 28, 2019 2:07 pm

Just wanted to get a discussion going. I know it’s been rezoned, but could it possibly reopen. With huge runways and close to SNA.

Sure. If you plow through all the homes there and remove the park and the new ice skating 4 sheet facility.

No, the runways have been torn up and homes built on the tarmac space. Seriously, look at Google Maps.

The short answers is no. It was voted on 3 times, 2 yes and a final no. If it had been developed SNA would have more than likely closed. The backers of El Toro envisioned a releiver airport to lax with international flight etc. The reality is the neighbors would not have let it develop and we would be left with another Long Beach.

No.

Its been 20 years since the base was decommissioned.

There are 1000s of people now living there with entire new communities and developments having sprung up.

No.

You have homes, schools, businesses already developed on the former base property.

The community said no and the world moved on.

Is that a thing on here? Haha

I mostly come here for news and updates. There’s always younger folks or maybe new to the aviation world posting somewhat naive questions. That’s fine. Then there’s stuff like this that is completely ridiculous. If the OP knows about the existence of El Toro they would also know that their question is outlandish. And now other posters making these long winded posts where they’re essentially conversing with themselves or answering their own questions while adding a ton of data. I’m guessing to seem smart? Strange nonetheless.
