3 survivors and 5 dead., rest in peace,

The plane has crashed through some small trees, engines and the front of the wing are damaged. But still the whole plane is less or more only heavily damaged (beyond repair), it is not smashed. It has survived, the it is not broken in parts, there was no fire, the fuselage is in one peace and not smashed, the wings are still there, where they shall be, Why five of the eight on board have not survived? I do not see any damage of a hard impact on ground, only damages, when it was sliding through the forest.I have not seen any picture of the other site of the plane (perhaps it is smashed), still I would expect everyone inside shall have been walking away unhurt or maximum slightly hurt on own feet.t

Was the freight not according secured and they have been killed by the moving freight during the crash landing?

The state the cockpit is in can be seen in some of the photos in the FB post linked by upintheair2018. Doesn't look good.
Also, in another picture some of the cargo can be seen - stamped metal parts. If that kind of cargo moved forward in the crash, it could have been fatal.

The Aviation Herald is now reporting it might be fuel starvation. VGO-LWO should be within maximum range of the AN-12. Also there are countless diversion options along the route, very strange!

This is very sad! I have seen (and heard) this very aircraft over my house a couple of times, flying at cruise altitude. RiP to all the victims.

Sad.

Is that company running on fumes, leading to pilots trying to do the same ?

I was going to ask how people died in that crash. Then I saw the front of the plane. Ouch

Regarding cargo shift, the AN-12s I have been in (a handful) have had a non-pressurized cargo compartment, and pressurized crew compartment. With a fairly substantial pressure bulkhead separating the two. It has been a few years since I've set foot in one but I feel like the bulkhead was substantial enough to withstand at least some initial load shift during a crash landing.

I hate to think about the guy in the glass nose though...
