Here is an article on their current facilities.
Its obvious they have likely outgrown this space and/or do not seeing it to continue to be functional and moderizable to future technology requirements in the years ahead.

I live near Diana Beach and Diana Point is a very hot new development just south of FLL and east of the I-95 corridor.

Mixed use along I95 is much better than being out in the swamp in Miramar.

A lot better for attracting talent and also for getting other employees from around the network to/from HQ being adjacent to the airport.

Most airline headquarters have historically been not-so-much. It's only been with the recent profits that carriers have finally refurbished their digs. I will say that the old US Airways headquarters at Crystal City is the best I've ever been in. It was a little cramped in spots, but it was contemporary and had a great view of National Airport and the Capitol. I'm sure Ben remembers how much nicer it was than the current Spirit offices. The new headquarters should offer a much higher quality of life for employees, if only to give them the satisfaction of working in a decent building.

Also of interest, the CEO mentioned that the fleet would likely double by the mid 2020's.

I can't believe they would name it Dania Point. When I first saw the title for a split second I thought it said Dana Point (an expensive resort area almost 20 miles south of SNA) which is the last place you would expect Spirit to relocate to.

No, but basic parking is $9/day.

OR

You can upgrade to Big Front Spots near the entrance for just $45 for the morning, or $65 for the Whole Day. . .

Clever, but Spirit Airlines doesn't rank among the Fortune 500 companies. Fortune 711 just doesn't have the same ring.

Bingo.

At least operations departments. Once the B6/NK merger is complete we might see those roles shift to the Dania Beach location NK is purchasing now :stirthepot:

Dunno but their FAs don't have to clean the planes, unlike B6.

Why spend so much money on an HQ?

B6 and AS with an HQ in JFK and B6 name, obviously.
So... when will the Northwest DC-9s be retired?

$250 M is not a lot of money for a headquarters right now. Construction costs are very expensive.

One would think it would have been cheaper to build these facilities near Detroit near their birthplace . Like they did with their new maintenance hanger.
the truth does matter, guys. too bad it's often quite subjective. the truth is beyond the mere facts and figures. it's beyond good and bad, right and wrong...

So interesting note. I work about a half mile away from this site. Dania Pointe is an amazing area that is occupying where the old roller coaster and go karts track was. They will have apartments, restaurants, supermarkets, aYouFit gym, and more. It is not more than 2 miles from the western end of 10R and about half a mile from JetBlue’s office at the DCOTA.

I can’t wait to watch the new HQ rise!

A hanger is what you hang a shirt on.
A hangar, on the other hand, is where an aircraft is housed during maintenance.

I guess Detroit didn’t offer Spirit the same tax incentives for building a new headquarters in Detroit like they did for the maintenance hangar.

While Detroit is going through a bit of a renaissance, I think it still would have been a Very tough proposition to convince all of the support staff, executives, training staff, etc to relocate from the sunshine of south Florida (where Spirit has been based since 1999) back to Michigan. The cost to recruit, train, and retain talent probably wasn’t worth any savings a move to DTW could have provided. South Floridians tend to be very staunchly South Floridian and likely wouldn’t relocate anywhere that gets below 60f (16c).

I personally was a bit surprised that Orlando wasn’t chosen. I know they tend to offer better tax incentives and is all around less expensive. I guess South Florida wanted to keep their hometown airline in south Florida and thus offered a better deal.

According to this article the state and county incentives are fairly modest, $2.25M. There is also a requirement of 225 new positions (this does not include any transfers from Mirimar) with an average annual salary of $79,000. So less than 1% public funds at $10,000 per job created.
