Aeroflot New Livery?

Mon Oct 21, 2019 11:57 pm

Hi, sorry if this was already posted but I saw the photo of Aeroflot’s first A350 and noticed a modified tail design. It seems like an evolution to the current one, so is it possible we will have a fully refreshed livery?

Here is the photo:

A bit much in my opinion, though realistically still far better than most.

I'm not the brightest lad when it comes to design, so it took me some 15 seconds to really see the difference, and only when going from one pic to another. So the tail flag is larger and they painted the wingtips. That one is a nice touch.

Of course.

This was the last great livery in Europe, of course it had to go.

But someone also posted this in the comments of the previous Facebook post. Does not look fake to me.

This new one have a more premium look in my opinion but I will miss the silver fuselage. Aeroflot among other airlines want to have a sophisticated look and with that those liveries looks the same and bit boring

The problem with the silver is that it starts to look very ratty after a while. I spent a few days at SVO in August and was shocked how many SU planes look bad. There's also a significant variation in the silver between different types of planes.

As much as I like their livery, a change from silver to white or some pearlescent colour would be better, IMHO.

:checkmark:

Metallic liveries like Aeroflots look great when new, but are next to impossible to color match (especially when doing touch ups) which make them look terrible as they age. With silver metallics it is very noticeable.

If this is indeed the new livery (and the tail design, at least, seems to match the photo linked by OP), then: meh. It all looks a bit out of proportion, and the orange on the engines looks a bit out of place without the stripe of the same colour on the fuselage.

Still, let's wait and see what the final result is.

I'll wait to see it actually painted. I'm not really a fan. If the fuselage indeed isn't white then it might be ok.

Really nice, maybe even better than the current one.
The fuselage looks like the new SAS livery, very light grey.
I like the big titles à la AIRFRANCE.
But the orange should go, no connection to the rest of the livery.

Looks awful If it's white *"white"* it's going to be just another eurowhite boring, and if not white but 'grey-ish', it'll just look dirty and shabby from day one.

I really hope it's not white. All these white liveries are monotonous. I think the silver looks good even when faded and mismatched on certain aircraft.

Does anyone know why Aeroflot uses orange in their livery? I've always thought it looked out of place fading in from the red on the tail.

Not bad at all, but I’m more upset that they went with the “globalized” titles than keeping it Russian. Same with Eva Air. Just made them feel more like a foreign carrier, making it feel diverse seeing them away from base.

I like it. Nice modern update. Sucks to see the silver go but perhaps it's a similar paint to AA's? AA's current livery looks the same color under those overcast conditions. The larger flag and titles are make it more modern. They could've done much worse to be honest.

It’s Russian on the other side, just like on the now old livery.

Ah, well in that case it’s fine (though the asymmetry seems weird).

I don’t have a problem with white as much as I have a problem with removing colors.

Was watching a video about how good character designs should make them identifiable just by the shape and color scheme. Could you identify the airline with blue and yellow? That used to be Lufthansa (yes there’s probably many blue and yellow, but let’s say we limit it to most known carriers). Light blue and silver? Korean. Etc

Like with Lufthansa and SAS, the tail looks much too heavy with this new livery.

The grey belly gives me soviet-era vibes from the old, old aeroflot livery. I like that, though the silver will be missed.

It seems strange that the SkyTeam logo is so much larger than the airline's own logo.

Overall, it's one of the better liveries, although on balance I prefer the current (now previous) one, which really stood out and looked great in every way.

I love the Aeroflot livery. They shouldve kept it as is. The grey belly seems out of place and if they really wanted to update it the larger titles should've been the only thing they have done.

Any livery that relies on specific lighting conditions to accurately reflect the true colour is a giant failure already. Here they've added more to the tail and taken from the fuselage. Which, overall, is unbalanced and actually "less". What a shame.

The tail looks great, I love the larger Russian flag and the larger titles are also an improvement. The dark grey belly seems like an odd choice though, if anything it dates the livery and clashes with the crisp colours of the flag.

Now that the "cheatline is gone", the orange has no longer any reason to be on the engines and the inner side of the winglets.

Grey belly looks slightly weird IMO.

I'm only happy that they kept the Cyrillic АЭРОФЛОТ on the left side.
Everything else is a clear step back. The iconic winged hammer and sicle logo is way too small while the Skyteam logo is too big. The flag on the tail is also too big and lost its previous subtle elegance. The fuselage color is too white and doesn't look as nice and recognizable as before.
It's a sad day for the friends of good liveries :cry2:

Plenty of airlines have ‘asymmetrical titles’. Native on the port (boarding side) and English on the starboard. Aside from just about every Russian airline, Air India and Ukraine International spring immediately to mind.

I don’t know about “relying on specific lighting conditions” but which liveries look the same at a wet, grey Manchester and a bright, sunny Miami?

That's true, but I always thought the silver looked fantastic. And speaking of lighting conditions (maybe I'm biased as an ex BD employee), but I always thought the iridescent "bmi" at the forward fuselage was beautiful on the "whale" livery.

Getting back to Aeroflot, silver should stay!

Errrr... most of them? Singapore. Qantas. Delta. KLM. Air France. Easyjet. Emirates. Ryanair. Original Lufthansa. Alaska. Southwest. And on and on.

But once they start using "pearl" and this shade of grey over that shade of off white, then explain away terrible snaps by the lighting of the day, then they've lost. American's seems to range from a beige brown to actual silver to a flat grey. Whereas the now former Aeroflot livery had a good silver that looked great every time I saw it.

As a photographer, I would dispute that any livery looks as good on a grey day vs a sunny day.

I spent a couple of days spotting at SVO last August, I can tell you that there’s plenty of variation in the Aeroflot silver. The 737s definitely look more grey than silver compared to the Airbuses and the silver doesn’t seem to age well, often taking on a mottled appearance.

Anyway, there’s little point in arguing since the matter is entirely subjective. :)
