One of those listed cities on AUS' recent incentive program? (BJS, DUB, CDG, ICN, PVG, TYO)

Korean Air is supposedly downgauging to the 789 on ICN-DFW in October 2020... perhaps making way for AUS capacity? Although, would an Asian airline have a joint announcement when it's night for them?

Could it be FAA approval of the new midfield concourse with an estimated construction start date?

AUS-SAT 20 daily on a C402 run by 9K as their new birds take other routes

It seems that when we have one of these vague tweets it's either an ulcc announcement, G4/F9 or something like the now infamous 5K. If it's something really big, there's usually a more formal notice, mayor x and director y will be welcoming special guests type of thing.

Austin to Honolulu is 3764 miles. Perhaps Hawaiian Airlines is going to use one of their A330s to fly to Austin on the off-chance that everyone in Austin doesn't want to vacation in Cancun.

I would be surprised if it is something from their wish list:

Norwegian is launching 3x weekly service between CDG and AUS with 787-9, from May 6th 2020. To be reduced to 2x weekly from September 25th.

I don’t see AF launching CDG-AUS. Everything I’ve read suggests that AF struggles at DFW. How can they make a smaller market like AUS work. AUS is quickly becoming overserved to EU. BA, DY (LGW & CDG) LH and KL??

Well, there's the absence of AA non-stop competition...

It gets down to the willingness of Austinites to pay a premium for non-stop. Businesses may. Leisure and government travelers are less likely to do so.

AF can get connection traffic to Africa and Asia (India, etc), while Norwegian has to rely only on O & D and some European connections. So AF flight may work better than Norwegian, that is if they launch it.

And yet at BOS they already go up against DL and AF who combined will be 4 daily next summer and see no signs of retrenchment, yet!
No doubt it will be tough, but you have to start somewhere and currently this route is unopposed.

You may be right, but you have to give it a chance.

Did I miss an AF/DL announcement of an imminent start of CDG-AUS flights? I see numerous comments of AF/DL killing Norwegian off the route, yet AF has not launched Austin flights. Is this AF CDG-AUS flight in the same category as AMS-RDU? Anetters claim it’s a given, it just takes forever to materialize.

Given ams just got announced and delta lack of point of sale at Austin, I don't know why delta would launch or even do well to Paris. If Dy has anything to worry about, it would be the connection competition from legacy carriers.

KL dropped DFW 2 years ago and about to start flights to AUS, so apparently AUS working when DFW doesn’t isn’t that crazy of an idea.

BOS is a significantly larger market but still doesn't mean they are making money. In fact I very much doubt their BOS routes are profitable except maybe LGW.
And remind me again exactly what new routes DL/AF/KL/VS are adding/expanding out of BOS? The same routes that DY operates. I don't think that's a coincidence. It's pretty obvious that DL wants to kick DY out of the TATL market. Don't be shocked to see an announcement for CDG-AUS from AF.

This is becoming interesting. Now with KL coming from AMS and Norwegian flying both LGW and CDG I wonder if we will soon see moves from DL as SkyTeam member and also JetBlue which is now partnering with Norwegian.

Nice add. So now AUS has or will have nonstop service to LHR, LGW, CDG, FRA, and AMS? Pretty impressive especially consider that nearby SAT, which has a slightly higher population than AUS, can't even land a flight to BOS or YYZ let alone a transoceanic flight.

Certainly is impressive, and really does show the strength of the AUS economy.

As for SAT, these AUS flights at least would give that population some travel options nearby that would not stack up on its own. Just another case of a bigger population not always translating to increased viability of services.

Very true. Actually several of my SA friends are excited about this announcement as they already frequently use AUS to fly, even for domestic routes so it's not really an issue for them.

Furthermore - KL served DFW 5x week and is only serving AUS 3x a week, so you can already see they’re not as confident in AUS as they were DFW.

I said the idea isn’t crazy, not that it will work. For that the willingness of KL to try AUS In spite of them leaving DFW is all I need to know. They aren’t throwing darts but have surely done their math which is about more than just the larger market.
