BUZZ to take on WIZZ in BUD

Thu Oct 24, 2019 4:54 pm

So at the end on November, Ryanair will leave Budapest BUD and the reason is it is having a hard time competing with WIZZ Air. The solution will be to base BUZZ there as it will have cheaper operating costs. BUZZ in BUZZ branding will be build out of Ryanair Sun which is flying out of Poland and at this time has 24 Ryanair aircraft. The article states that no routes will be affected out of BUD. So it really is just putting a cheaper crew in there. I wonder when the aircraft will be painted.

Sorry link right now in Polish

I think the key to wizz beating ryanair in some markets is the 321 when wizz can put 230 people instead of 189 that is a big advantage. Not only in spreading unit costs but also the ability to increase ancillary revenue per flight.
that is 40 more seat selections, priority boarding, checked bags, onboard service, and any other crap they can sell.

There are 230 seats on the 321ceo and 239 on the 321neo. That's +50 over FR.

I realize that a similarly configured A321 would have more like 165 seats, but it blows my mind that they fit 13 more seats than Delta's relatively dense low-J 763s and 1 more seat than Delta's newly reconfigured 764s. No wonder these carriers can offer such cheap fares intra-EU (and to an extent why Boeing has such challenges with their MoM business case).

I believe there was an old low cost carrier in England called Buzz back in the late 90's... Yellow Bae or Avro jets. Stansted based. Wasn't ryanair involved with buying them or something?

They are bringing it back as a new airline.

Buzz was a low cost subsidiary of KLM during the early 2000s. It was a relatively small carrier with less than 20 aircraft and based in Stansted which made it a prime target for Ryanair who snapped it up 2003 and within a year the brand was gone, absorbed into a rapidly growing Ryanair.

Ryanair has now relaunched the brand as part of its 'Ryanair Group' strategy but instead of the UK market, it will be the new name of Ryanair Sun, the Polish subsidiary of the group.

Are both WIZZ and BUZZ prepared to deal with passengers confusing the two brands?

WIZZ is also not hampered by the MAX situation like Ryanair.

All that BUD needs is SCAT Airlines to differentiate the multiple airlines. Lol

Sure Wizz Air has more seats on their A321s but are there really that many markets out there that need so many seats from Budapest? Of course there are destinations such as London, Barcelona, Paris... but what about cities such as Stockholm, Athens, Ukrainian and Balkan destinations ... ? To me it seems like the BUD bubble keeps on being inflated more and more.

Maybe FR is being more cautious here.

Only while dropping a SCAT.

Will it actually be Buzz-branded, or just Ryanair operated by Buzz? My understanding is that all of Buzz aircraft are in Ryanair’s livery?

My guess is that slowly slowly planes will be painted in the new livery. You can find pictures of it online.

Well, some people overlook that Wizzair is a well established brand with a much better reputation plus a very very low cost base ...
FR has intentionally ignored/neglected the eastern European countries (in particular outside the EU) for too long.
W6 was able to solidly build up their network without having to compete with FR.
So, W6 had also sufficient time to fill their bank account with money for a possible battle with FR (and FR knows that)
Due to the B737max issue FR is not exactly in a position to run a fierce battle with W6.
FR´s attempt to take on W6 is due to the change in focus at FR (they are having trouble expanding much further in Western Europe).
In the meantime W6 manages to further drive down seatmile costs by introducing the right aircraft.
Even with the B737Max eventually being in FR´s fleet they won´t be able to match W6´s cost base.
But - of course - that´s the case only as long as W6 can fill their 321´s ...

IMHO Ryanair is simply too late to the party ...

... and one subject FR is likely to underestimate is the fact that getting traffic rights / local support takes a lot of effort in many countries.
Wizzair has the right team with likely long standing personal relationships and "paths" to approach local dignities in order to get their way.
In many countries business relations don´t work the way Ryanair is used to ...
Flying is not inherently dangerous but it is very unforgiving in case of carelessness, incapacity or neglect.

For passengers no change at all. It’s just the crews who are going to earn way less than their colleagues in Western Europe.

Yes, but still not of an actual repainted aircraft. Just computer generated

Many passengers are transfering in BUD from wizz to ryan or even to long hauls. Its very easy to transfer in Budapest Airport and ticket prices are very cheap due to the seat capacity.

 wow, I mean how is that even possible. I thought Ryanair was operating at the bare basics. How can BUZZ go even lower than Ryanair?

I'm very interested in seeing this too. I also thought FR hit rock bottom when it comes down to cutting costs.
