FR today DUB-BGR

Sat Oct 26, 2019 11:29 am

Came across this on FR24, anyone have any idea what this is all about? Some corporate movement perhaps using -800 instead of the corporate -700?

Perhaps they have started NYC and BGR is their local airport.

Pickle fork fix at Victorville. EI-DCL should be heading the same way today too - ironic that the ‘Dreamliner’ livery aircraft is involved.

I think BGR would be Ryanair's New York and Victorville their Los Angeles. What's a Ryanair flight without bus ride that costs more than the flight?

''What's a Ryanair flight without a bus ride that costs more than the flight?''

I don't know ''What's a Ryanair flight without a bus ride that costs more than the flight''?

Are you making a comment or trying to make a joke or are you just asking a question seeing you have added a ''question mark'' at the end of your sentence.

The old adage that Ryanair only fly to peripheral airport's is getting a bit lame to be honest. It's quite obvious that Ryanair is changing direction in that respect.

Here are just a few examples of mainline airport's that Ryanair currently service some of which have peripheral airport's nearby also served by the airline.

Amman AMM
Amsterdam AMS
Athens ATH
Barcelona BCN
Beirut BEY
Berlin TXL
Brussels BRU
Casablanca CMM
Copenhagen CPH
Dublin DUB
Dusseldorf DUS
Frankfurt FRA
Geneva GVA
Madrid MAD
Milan MXP
Munich MUC
Nice NCE
Oslo OSL
Paris ORY
Prague PRG
Rome FCO
Sofia SOF
Tel Aviv TLV
Tunis TUN
Valencia VLC
Venice VCE
Vienna VIE
Warsaw WAW
Zurich ZRH

Ryanair flights are not as cheap as they used to be especially since the days of the £1 fare which I used on many occasions and your find that the cheapest returns without any ancillary costs start from approximately £12.00 return. The cost of the surface transport on the bus ride from peripheral airport's probably cost or start around the same price.

Peripheral airport's don't always serve the main airport as in the case at Memmingham for Munich but it opens up opportunities for the wider area. Not everyone is heading in the same direction once they arrive at their destination.

Wrong! Ryanair doesn't fly to Orly, neither do they fly to Charles de Gaulle. They have their Paris operations heavily concentrated at Beauvais and some small scale at Vatry. Paris is one of the few major European cities where they don't serve the primary airports at all.

At the other major airports they have limited presence. Yes, they do fly to Amsterdam. They have 2 destinations from there. Meanwhile, they got nearly 40 destinations from Eindhoven including the two from Amsterdam. There's no major shift, just a small addition.

Same with Munich. 2 destinations from the big Munich airport, about 25 from Memmingen.

Looking at the fares, flying from a secondary airport versus a primary airport is nearly always cheaper. Often the price difference is even more than the cost of a bus ride to the secondary airport.

Very likely, I bet they're looking into it. Specially since Ryanair is now offering connecting flights at a limited number of airports. Of course, those are in fact nothing more than arranged self-transfers. The price is the same as the two flights added up, but it would help fill the planes.

If they would start flights to Stewart, it would most likely be from Dublin. After all, that's where these flights were profitable for Norwegian and that was even without a feeder network. Now that Norwegian has pulled out and Ryanair has plenty of feed at Dublin, it must be profitable for them too.

Of course the major difference is that Ryanair would not use pre-clearance for their flights to the USA, despite it being available at Dublin. Instead they would drop off their passengers at the international arrivals in Stewart and have them clear immigration there. But since Stewart is a small airport and not very busy, this should go rather fast.

I think as soon as the MAX is airworthy again we can see Ryanair starting Stewart from Dublin.

Is Boeing paying for this unexpected maintenance. Is this enough to skew the economics in favour of the A320CEO and against the 737NG resulting in reduced resale prices for the 737NG on the open market. It obviously isn't a small job otherwise it would be done closer to home.
