You do see 777-300ERs being used on shorter stage lengths in Asia and the Middle East so there are likely situations where a 787-10's legs would be sufficiently long enough.

Yes, i know that. But do those fly those exklusive or inbetween longer haul?

I believe there are some specially equipped aircraft dedicated to flying between the ME and India, but lets not forget that ME to Europe is only about 5-6 hours, and those destinations do often have the same cabin layouts as the long routes. So I would say it's a mix.

It's apparently for their LCC subsidiary. But still a little surprising given Air Astana are currently replacing their A320 fleet with neos including the A321LR.

Guys, although surprising, every airline can’t buy only A320s. A monopoly is good for no one!
Let’s just hope the 737Max re-enters in service smoothly

Nobody disagrees (except maybe Southwest :wink2: ), but Air Astana is a small airline, so a split single-aisle decision for them is indeed surprising.

"political reasons". How to take care that the LCC is different from the main carrier and that the crews of the LCC arm will not have to be paid the same as the crews of the main carrier?
Let them fly another family of planes.
Else, if the crews are flying on the same jet-family, who in best case have the same PAX and equipment, will be maintained by the same teams, the only difference is the color of the uniforms and the livery on the tails of the jets; so these crews are doing the same in the LCC subsidiary as in the main carrier.. How someone shall explain, that they will be paid less?

The Government of Ghana has signed a MOU for 3 B787-9s for their new national carrier:

Hmmm......

Boeing is collecting "only" letter of Interest" (LOI) and no MOU or firm orders. The 2x B787 was already firmed and stated in the Boeing books prior the Airshow.

Let us hope, they will be firmed later on, when the Max grounding will have ended..

EDIT: Order for B787 by Air Ghana is an MOU, just published in parallel.

It is not surprising that customers do not want to commit to the MAX before it is finally sorted out.
They are saying that once it is back in the sky and flying without any issues, there are willing to order it.

And the passengers are willed to fly with them again. I have seen many questionnaires e.g., where most have answered, that are willed to fly again on the MAX but not in the first 6 month after end of grounding. They all first want to see in real live, that the issues are than all solved. The crash test dummies, someone else is allowed to play.

And I have to say, I have also ticked the same in one of these questionnaires.

This suggests a new order (or LoI, MoU?) for 10 x MAX 7 and 10 x MAX 10:

"The second deal, finalized by an unnamed customer, is for 10 MAX 7s and 10 MAX 10s, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed."

My gut is saying Westjet but I don’t know why that would be announced/finalized at this show.

Considering the articles on SpiceJet talking with Boeing their name should also pop-up sooner then later in this discussion. But why would they place an order for the MAX 7?

20 seems too small for Spicejet...after Indigo's recent order and the failure of Jet Airways, SpiceJet probably can (and would) make a substantial order.

A Max 7 order sounds for me more like an order by an US airline or LCC; Southwest as example or one of the US Legacy?. So some additional jets for an already existing order.

Regarding Spicejet, as what was said in last weeks, the Boeing sales teams where hard working to finalize the deal. There are still two days left. The MAX is still grounded, Spicejet really does not need to hurry up, they can also order in next weeks. .

I wonder if this could be something from United? Maybe testing the waters on the Max 7 before ordering more in the future.

Or this very well could be an order by Delta maybe? I hope I don’t catch flak on that statement. It makes sense considering they have very few Boeing 737-700 in their current fleet. I’m just not sure where the Boeing 737 Max 10’s would fit in.

Full quote

"Nov 19 (Reuters) - Emirates still intends to take the 150 Boeing 777X jets it had ordered, but that could change depending on the delivery schedule, its president said on Tuesday.

Any Boeing 787 Dreamliners the airline orders could be in addition to the 777X planes already ordered or could replace some of them, Emirates President Tim Clark told reporters at the Dubai Airshow.

Emirates is still not sure when it will receive the first delivery of Boeing 777X planes, he said."

So if the 777X is significantly delayed they start taking 781's instead of?

Considering how many 737NG are running around with similar scimitar-style winglets, if those passengers have any idea of what a MAX looks like, I would not be surprised if a significant number of them think they are already on a MAX in such a situation.

2023 or later Based on what? A 3-4 year test flight program?

That would basically mean the FAA had totally blown the existing certification process and that Boeing shuts down the line.

Even a top down review of what has been done so far would not take that long.

Worst case is probably late 2021.

787-9 or 787-10 or both?
That is the question considering they ordered 50 A350-900.
It would be logical if they order a mix of 787-9 and 787-10 with GEnx engines.

I wonder if EK has managed to extract themselves from the "requirement" that they choose the Trent 1000 for the 787. I use "requirement" because it was reported that EK was going to choose RR power for all three types (A350, A330neo and 787) and this was part of the deal to cancel their Trent 900 contract for the cancelled A380s.

The first press conferences for Wednesday are timed.

Emirates will announce (most likely) an order at 11:00 am local time and I state this here in the Boeing thread (Airbus has a PC at the same time, so it is not an Airbus order).

Would be happy if this turns out to be true, I can see 787 role in EK operation. A380, B77W/X, A350, B787 each having their specific role in their operation. Some routes currently flown with B77W might not need B77X capacity can be transferred to A350/B787.

For Boeing, they would need this order to sustain their production rate. The Aeroflot cancellation would have free up some slots, hence EK may bite it.

Deja vu, theit initial order for 787 went "missing" for some reason, now it is back on. Just like their initial 70 A350 order, now back with 50.

My guess would be 787-10s to be the regional workhorse in exchange for some 77Xs. Emirates is streamlining operations for the future. With more ULR flights on the rise, the hub and spoke model can't handle the bulk it used to.

It will very likely be for the -9

https://thepointsguy.com/news/emirates-dreamliner-plan/

Instead, Clark explained that Emirates’ order will likely change, saying: “We’re kind of moving our thinking towards the [787]-9. The A350-900 is more of a [787-10] in its inventory offering, so we’ll probably go with the [787]-9.”

My guess would be 787-10s to be the regional workhorse in exchange for some 77Xs. Emirates is streamlining operations for the future. With more ULR flights on the rise, the hub and spoke model can't handle the bulk it used to.

I would agree with this and even called this some time ago. Though I think the -9 is very possible too. Maybe even a mix.
EK doesn't need all the capacity of 777X order. Their business model has changed and they are facing a lot more competition from other airlines that have stepped up their game.
The A380s (at least the majority) will be around for the better part of another decade. Possibly longer depending on market conditions. Their current 777 fleet is still young. Now they have a sizable A350 order too and whatever this announcement brings.

I'll be shocked if the 777X order wasn't modified.

Regarding the requirement of buying RR engines, 39 * 4 is 156 engines, 50 * 2 give only 100. As Emirates did not order the engines through Airbus, as they ordered the A380, but from RR direct, it could b that the 50 A350, with 100 TXWB, do not fully replace the 156 engine order for the T900.

But both 787 and A330neo are on offer with RR engines.

If Emirates buys 787, I would assume 787-9. The 787-10 is just to similar in size to the A350-900.

Gulf News is reporting deal might be for 40 B787 in exchange for restructured B77X order. Barring surprises, the deal may not make it in time for DAS 19.

Just question then is EK dropping the 778 to swap with the 787? Since the A350 are coming and the 778 is delayed
